Those of you that have rainbow boas know all about the high humidity requirements. I've also read that rainbows can be sensitive to chemicals used to treat mites. I have two young columbian rainbow boas, (1 is still very very small), and also a baby corn snake. On my male columbian I noticed two little black specs moving on him the other day. I've checked his enclosure extensively, but since I thoroughly clean the enclosure every Sunday, I don't believe I have an infestation on my hands yet. I still intend to treat his tank and the others since all the enclosures are on the same table but am worried about using chemcials in such wet (75-80% humidity) enclosures and on such young snakes. I ordered some provent-a-mite since it isn't sprayed on the snakes at all; however, I worry about the wet environment "re-activating" the ingredient in the provent-a-mite since it says to let dry completely before putting the snakes back in the enclosure. The enclosures don't stay dry. I read online that someone at proproducts, makers of provent-a-mite, said it is okay for humid environments, but still wanted to check with people on here and see if anyone has had any experience using provent-a-mite on young rainbows and/or in high humidity tanks. I believe I will completely clean out the tanks again, let dry, and spray with provent-a-mite. I will get my guys all set up in their feeding tubs with clean substrate and an extra hide. Let the tanks with the provent-a-mite dry over night just to be extra cautious. Then put in their new substrate and sterilized hides, water bowls, etc. Then instead of cleaning out the tank again in 7 days, wait 14 and just spot clean to give the provent-a-mite a chance to work, and do it all over again in 14 days. I'll also make sure to sterilize their feeding tubs, but won't put the provent-a-mite in those since they eat in there. I will appreciate any comments/advice.
btw...every 7 days when I clean the tanks, my husband and I do it while they are eating in their tubs so they won't get stressed out. They eat and chill in their tubs and go back in the enclosures as soon as we are done. I do this cause don't want mold or mildew to grow in the tanks due to the high humidity and it just seems cleaner and smells better.
Thanks!
