I recently went on a vacation and my mother was going to feed my baby corn snake while I was gone but was unable to. So here's my question, should I feed him today or wait until the scheduled feeding day (Thursday)? He hasn't eaten since the 28th of July.

It doesn't really matter. I would go ahead and offer food.

If the snake is hungry, feed it..... They don't keep a calender in their cage. ;)

i preffer to keep feeding random,my adults and sub adults i feed once every 15 to 30 days.in winter i only give 3 to 4 feeds.

re my reason
i don't know if it was just my imagination, but when i had a designated feeding day,i felt all my carpets knew it was feeding day and paced about waiting for it.like they had learned the routine ? as said was most likely all in my head, but now i like to keep them guessing,i feel i get a better feeding response

Shaun i dont think it is in your head - my guys are always "ready" for their feeding. I posted elsewhere that my SD will be looking for food before i have even taking it out the freezer!

thanks for the info rob

i wasn't sure if i was over thinking the situation and trying to convince myself that they could work out that 7 days had passed,so food would be arriving at some point that day

i kept thinking no i'm imagining it,as snakes would not have a sense of time in terms of " oh thats 7 days gone by so its feeding day today "

would love to hear others thoughts on.....

when sticking to the same day each week to feed on,do snakes learn which day the feeding day is and when that day arrives every week ?

as said i thought i was imagining it mate, but i'm not so sure now i've heard from you

cheers shaun

Mine are all on 14 days feeding now, most only get active once the prey items are defrosting so i am assuming they are reacting to smell but the Retic will be in semi feed mode the day BEFORE they are taken out of the freezer so it can only be because A) he is starting to feel hungry or B) he "knows" that 14 days is almost up. (or to take it to extreme he hears me and wife talking about feeding day ;) )

I feed random also, my reason.. I couldn't have a schedule if I wanted to.

One of the most entertaining aspects of garter snakes is keeping a few brightly coloured ones within easy view. (I have a tank right next to my PC and one on top of the television stand.)

When any one snake in the group starts food pacing, the others will join in and it's fun to watch.

Also pay attention when the weather changes, most snakes can tell.

For garter snakes (and Chomper our Sav too) rain equals plentiful food in the wild, so my critters really come to life when it is raining out. even stubborn feeders will often eat when the weather is crappy.
