I knew I shouldn't have gone into the pet store today.. just had that feeling..
They have a new baby carpondro IJ crossed with GTP female..
I held her, and now I am screwed because I wanna go back and bring her home with me..
Tell me she isn't adorable???

That's gorgeous. How much?

I know right??
She was tame too, curled right up on my thumb and chilled.
She is $650... :(
Pretty steep.. isn't it?
My JCP was $275

Wow so expensive. And it's not even an investment because 99.9% of the time hybrids are incapable of breeding. I have a coastal carpet i got for 125. I love him. That is a beautiful snake no doubt, but imo, not worth 650. Either way, if you get it, post pics
!!!!!

I hear you.
I have absolutely no interest or intent of ever breeding any of my snakes.
They are just my pets, I don't wanna get into breeding.
I am so on the fence about going back now and buying her... I shouldn't... but it's so tempting.
Saving up for something else... lol at least trying too...

that looks absolutely beautiful, i would ask myself what im saving up for and if i can get that sort of thing anytime and then how often would i come across something like the carpondro.
i would go for the carpondro :)

I'd swing that by shaun, that doesn't look like a gtp/ij cross.
I've got lots of pics of that pairing on my computer and they all look like this.

To me it looks like some kind of Jaguar cross or Jungle cross. Plus the stripes are to well defined IMO to have GTP in it.

Exactly, almost 100% doubt it.

That makes sense, I never thought about it like that.
Still a beautiful snake, though I dunno about the $650 part.
Oh I should also mention towards the back of her tail she had some red markings too... was like nothing Ive seen before.

High price =/= high quality.
Pics of the red markings? Either way its too small to be done a color change.

Nah no pictures.
He just pointed out how the sides of her back half had some red markings and some almost speckles of red color.

Are they as fragile as GTP's or as hardy as carpets?
neurotic88
07-22-11, 12:07 PM
No idea,
Shop guy said they were in from Ottawa from a breeder and there was only a few of them around.
stephanbakir
07-22-11, 12:10 PM
Where in Ottawa, I can go check it out.
neurotic88
07-22-11, 12:11 PM
I will have to find out his name for you.
neurotic88
07-22-11, 12:23 PM
OK...
So I spoke with the shop guy again, and told me it is indeed a IJ GTP mix
He also told me that since its a baby, it hasn't had its transformation yet, and he said some of them will have their blacks turn blueish and yellow turn green etc.
Which is awesome, but at the same time I LOVE how the snake looks now, which I guess it wont look anything like in a year... so maybe its not a great idea to buy it for its looks lol

Keep in mind, we think it may just be a carpet. Are you willing to pay that much for the possibility that its something else?

if you do a search on the internet there are tons of pics of carpondro that look almost like the one at the pet store, its still young and has not changed yet....
i think this one is older...

I've decided to pass... which sucks.. I want to buy her.
But then again, as I said before.. I love that way it looks now, I was thinking of a bigger version of her NOW.. which wouldn't be the case at all.

thats a very nice looking capondro mate
a lot of capondro's i've seen pictures of were not very nice looking examples at all, they were quite dirty, muddy looking
that one of yours is a nice high quality very clean, sharp and crisp looking snake.
i would have had the same urge to buy it as you if i saw it in the flesh
look forward to seeing more pictures once you get him settled in and feeding regular
cheers shaun

99.9% of the time hybrids are incapable of breeding.
Where did you get that info?
stephanbakir
07-22-11, 09:00 PM
Male hybrids are sometimes infertile, same with females, but nowhere even in the area of 99.9%, its more like... 1%?
Although I did hear of a snake where all males were infertile, duno if it was verified or what morph it was though.

Yeah, many hybrids are fertile. That is how species get all muddied up.......

hmm.. correct me if I'm wrong, but because of their color change any 'breeder' or shop can sell a baby GTP mix for a lot of money because nobody can really tell what it is until it's fully grown and reached the final color stage.

Maybe i was wrong. I came across this site. Jagpondro.com (http://www.jagpondro.com/jagpondro.php)
Anyway that just might be a Carpondro. There are some that look like that one. But if you scroll down on the page and check out the pictures of the different snake as they get older most of them get uglier or muddier looking. Only a couple still look nice. I won't want to spend that kind of money on a snake that may look like crap as a adult.

Looks a lot like neonate carpondros I've seen. As a lot of people mentioned they can change into who knows what, but the body does look carpondro to me. I've been looking into them a lot lately as id like to breed a clutch for myself and maybe some of them for friends if they'd like one.

Even buying neonate GTP's can be a risk unless you see both parents as the young colourings can bear little or no resemblance to the adult colours.

I known a guy who breeds carpondros, and the babies pretty much look like that one. They are yellow like baby GTPs with black banding. The really remarkable thing is how they change as they grow. They do undergo a color change like a GTP does, but it's very variable- they can be all blue and black, or retain a lot of yellow, or turn green and black, green and yellow,...pretty much a rainbow of variety. All of the carpondros Ive seen around me were on the order of $1500-3000USD, so the one in that shop is a bargain as far as I'm concerned. If I lived in Canada, I would eat Ramen and canned tuna for months so I could buy it. She's gorgeous.

It definitely is a carpondro and many snake hybrids have proven fertile.
just my 0.02...

Haven't carpondros proven out just fine fertility-wise? I mean, they have 75% GTP/carpet and 75% carpet/GTP.

Carpondros are fine.

My JCP was $275
thats actually very cheap for a good looking capondro mate
they sell for £650 to £2000 depending on the quality over here
the op's capondro would easily fetch £700 upwards over here
imo you cannot compair to a jungle which is easy to breed and in abundance.
capondro's are still pretty hard to get hold of,also crossing a gtp with a carpet is a more difficult breeding and incubation imo
cheers shaun
