Ohhh mah gawd, I had a scary moment today.
Looks like my snakeygirl nudged the thermostat probe for the hot side out of the way - the hot side ended up waaaaay too hot. I was wondering why she was chilling in the cool hide! Fixed now. Phew.
I swear, I want to line her viv with thermometers sometimes. XD

glad it got corrected before it became fatal.

Me too, for sure.
I've looked her over and she seems to be fine - no discoloration on her scales, alert and moving. Can't imagine it had been overheating for a really long time, but still, very scary.

unfortunately it happens, but if u want to secure the probe, then all u have to do is use a small amount of aquarium sealant and stick it down, ur girl wont be able to move it then :)

thats one reason why I would never put a thermostat probe inside the enclosure. lucky you caught it...

So where do you put your probes? :)

All my probes are on top of the substrate directly under the heat lamps - i walk by my vivs (and can see them from where i sit most of the day) all the time and always check the probes as i walk by. The snakes do like to move or bury them fairly regularly.

Jay, in my ball pythons racks, I use belly heat and I fix my thermostat probes directly to the flexwatt. I use digital thermometers and a temp gun to monitor the temperature inside the enclosure. I do it this way for a few reasons, one being the exact reason for this thread. I dont want to come home to a rack full of cooked ball pythons.

To be clear, I'm mainly referring to terrestrial animals that require belly heat.
When using RHPs for example, one can securely fix the thermostat probe inside the enclosure, directly on or a few inches under the element so that it cannot be moved or obstructed by the captive inside.
