So yesterday i got a Bothriechis Schlegelii (Eyelash Viper). She is a very little girl, and a Christmas Tree color variation, very pretty. Shes got alittle bit of an attitude from what i see. I set her up in a nice ExoTerra. I promise i will post pictures tomorrow morning, when my girlfriend gets home with my camera. My huge order from Midwest came in today also, very happy about that. If you google Christmas tree Eyelash viper a few pictures come up that look very similar to her, shes just smaller. But again i promise for pictures tomorrow.

So you got yourself a Christmas tree after all. Congratulations. Just read up on them and they are scale drinkers and will sit on the same spot for days. Very interesting.

Yes! :) I specialize in Arboreal Tree Vipers.. Ive written more then one paper on them. (you know college papers lol) I can almost name every species scientifically, although my pronunciation of several needs work haha. I have done plenty of research and been hands on (not literally haha) with them for almost a year. I find myself qualified to own one as do my mentors. FYI they are scale drinkers in captivity only because they dont recognize a stagnant water source. Once they are familiarized with one they will utilize it. I have many tricks to get them to understand what a water dish is. lol

Same, I though you just had to get rid of your snakes? You stated you were going to be living on campus, what is the policy on keeping Hots.

I'm hoping he will be housing them in a secondary location, dorm rooms aren't secure, and even a locked viv can be broken into quite easily.

I believe it was a one bedroom. Regardless when maintenance crew notices the hot it will hit the fan.

Its an apartment, technically it is in city limits so its a campus zone but its not actully on campus, it is ran privately as are many. You dont have to attend USC to live there. Jay there is a huge difference between a 8 foot cage and a 12"x12x12... I have everything worked out.

@stephan you cant have pets of any kind in any dorm.

That's one reason I like South Carolina, the exotic pet law. You may not own Wolf or Coyote, yet there are no state laws governing the possession of non-domesticated felines, primates and reptiles.

There are like 5 color schemes. Golden and Christmas Tree's are the most sought after. Id like to one day get her a Golden mate. They are live bearers.

Beautiful little beastie. I've always been partial to the Christmas tree and green phase eyelash vipers myself. The yellows are beautiful too, but the greens are so much less common. My fiance really wants to get one, but I'm nervous about the idea of a venomous snake in the house. I get bitten enough by the snakes we have! LOL

yea it took me awhile to find this one. I dont really have a choice between the greens/yellows i like them both.

Hook work is the door, awareness is the key.

I do want a golden phase some day. At the last Hamburg show, I saw an amazingly beautiful female golden phase that had very subtle green banding to her. The red-orange ones are really cool too.

Any problems getting her to eat?

Not in the slightest. She will pretty much strike at anything that comes in her cage directed at her.

I also have no problems with her being able to drink. Alot of people say that this species of snake will not ever drink from a stagnant water source. The only reason why they don't is because they don't recognize it. Once its been shown to them they will utilize it. as you see here:

Is the water source youre talking about the green leaf looking thing curled up? Is there a way I can get mine to drink from a water dish? He still hasnt eaten yet and I've had him for about a month almost. He still seems active at night, maybe just not hungry yet. Can you get a pic of your eyelash vipers cage?

Yes... and yes. It takes some time, start off by presenting a water source in very close proximity to the eyelash vipers normal path.

The leaf water dish for glass enclosures is available online and at some popular pet stores. An easy way to fix the problem your going to realize you have as soon as you get it, is to place a large water dish on the enclosure floor under the leaf. This way you can just pour fresh water into the water source everyday and the old water will drain to the bottom where the snake doesnt venture. This way you wont disturb the snake on a daily basis to change water he may or may not be drinking. As you can see here my viper will rest in the dish when its not filled with water:

Just shed also retained nothing. Her pink/reds are really starting to show.

Pretty awesome

I hope to some day add all the colors to my collection.
No hots yet. Working toward my hook handling.

On a plus, I have never been bitten by a snake, and I own retics, boa's ij etc. :)
