What kind of snake is this

I found this snake in my garden eating a frog. What kind of snake is it? I live in Eastern Michigan.

That is a Garter snake eating a toad. ;) (sorry if I got the toad thing wrong, but frogs are seldom found in gardens unless a body of water is close by)
