Good choice i like seeing people with these as long as they DONT handle them.
Ive always thought they were the closest you could get for a nonvenomous to the majestic beauty of Arboreal Tree Vipers.

I want to be able to handle him one time a month.. only so I can clean out his viv and do what I need to do to keep him happy. I will be doing this with a hook seeing as he will be a display snake not a lap snake.

Based on this statement you will make a great owner, as long as your husbandry is correct. I love seeing non venomous owners handle snakes with hooks, it appears to be quite a bit less stressful for the animal. I do recommend you practice hooking with other snakes, (if you dont have alot of experience) before you go straight to it with a Tree Python, they are very delicate you have to support there weight just right. (as they get older it looks smaller right now)

Great! I use to practice hook and tailing on a 5.5ft Black Rat snake that thought he was a Elapid. hahah Lots of fun!

If yours is anything like mine you dont need to remove to do a viv clean as mine just sits on his branch and watches me!
I reckon in the next couple of sheds you should have a lovely green snakey judging by his colouring and age - he will look pretty ****** in between the next few sheds but dont worry!

most gtp keepers i know use removable perches
they just leave the gtp wrapped round its perch and take them both out as one
young gtp's have very delicate spines, one of the reasons people tend to leave sexing them until after 1 year of hatching
i have seen a few gtp's with kinked spines due to premature sexing or being overly handled
very nice wee green tree you have there

So Happy.. my and the hubby just fed Blitz. He eats like a champ! The guy we got him from was feeding him a fairly small mouse every 3 weeks. I fed him an adult mouse, he took it with in 1 second of seeing it and had no trouble at all gulping it down. I feel better now that he has eaten for me!
More pics to come in about 2 weeks.. I want to get a few good meals into him before I annoy him with photo's and I have to find my camera battery..

Wow Blitz looks great. I love tree pythons in general but I stick to ball pythons because I don't have the restraint to have a strictly display snake that I can't touch :p Can't wait to see the color changes after s/he sheds!

Thanks Alessia! I know what you are saying. It can be hard to not touch but seeing as when I got Blitz he was soooo nasty it made it easier. Now its just routine to change water and leave him be. I have other snakes I can hold so I deal fairly well.

Ahh mine was a rescue the guy said he is was about 1yr old when we got him. He was a red baby and all yellow with a few green marks when i took him home. I know he was underfed. Only given a small mouse hopper/fuzzy once a month. The guy was scared of him..lol Your color change should happen a little faster.

So Blitz shed this morning! I Love seeing him shed, I got to watch him starting about half way through. I woke up and did my normal check to see him staring at me with a new fresh face. I am going to feed him tonight and take pics in 3 days. I see more green , some blue and more blackish. His colors are really getting interesting!

Once He eats and digests I will take pictures. He tried to tag me about 8 times when I cleaned his viv and got the shed/poop out. I wish he wouldn't poop all over his shed. He didn't eat the last 2 weeks due to being in shed. He will calm down a bit after a nice tasty rat.
Sweet! A shed is always like getting a new snake but when their color is changing too. Just wow. :)
Can't wait to see the pics Kat :-)

You have a very nice looking Chondro! I like getting to see the picture progression of the colour change. Very cool.
One a side note, I think the species has a bad rap for being snappy, delicate, and picky husbandry-wise.
Their spines are super delicate when young, this is VERY true, however, they do firm up a bit with age; handling is not recommended in the first year or a little longer, and of course no animal at any age should be physically removed/ pulled from their perch.
They aren't "easy" to handle, but you definitely can. I've personally handled a number of them without getting struck at and without a fleeing escape attempt... my brother's old one was a "demon" to quote him and I had no serious issues. As another member said, removing the animal with their perch is your best bet, then you can slowly begin to cradle it from under the perch. This is less stressful and less of a threat because predators tend to attack from above rather than below. From here there's a good chance it'll choose to move onto your hand/ arm and voila. They are no ball, but as long as you're calm and move slow and keep in your mind not to approach from above if changing hands etc. you'll be fine.
There is a great video online by Rico Walder from Signal that is very informative when it comes to handling arboreal snakes. I'm not sure I can post a link but it's not too tough to find. It's quite a good little 5 or 10 min watch :)
Look forward to seeing the change continue!

I tried and failed. Blitz is in a really cranky mood. I took the lid off of his tub and all he did was try to eat me or the camera. Once he calms down a bit I will go in for shots but he gets in these moods and I refuse to become food.

GTP's really dont like being approached from above, we always try to come towards ours at the same level as the snake, above=predator below=prey for our guy :)

I am more than well aware of that Rob. I really wish hubby had time to finish his front open viv but until then the tub is where I can give him the best temps and humidity. He is fairly used to it but has his pissy days. I am going to take some pics now. be back in a few!
