Hey there,

I picked up a Caramel Corn snake tonight. She is 3 years old and just laid her eggs about 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately she had a prolapse and now can no longer be used as a breeder so now I have her. She is about 3 feet long and much more on the yellow side. However, she had a very bad shed, the bottom and the head came off but most of the top part is in shreds, so I'm planning on giving her a bath. That brings me to a question: Should I let her settle in first or should I give her a bath to get the rest of the shed off and then let her settle in?

I was given a 10 gal tank free but thought that was way too small and moved her into a 20 gal in which I put 2 inch of Aspen substrate, a hide (an overturned water kettle), a branch and some fake leaves, oh and the water bowl. She's been going all over the place checking everything out. I'm thinking of calling her Carrie as for CARamel. Is that too corny?

Here is a pic of her from my cell phone, which is not very good but it's a start.

I would let her settle in and just offer her a humid hide. Don't stress her with a bath. She should sit in the humid hide and get the shed off on her own.

Doesnt look like you have hides at both ends of the enclosure? Personally i would stuff a hide full of damp sphagnum moss and let her use that to get the shed off - my corns seem to love their moss hides and spend lots of time in there - just make sure you keep it moist or the moss will start to die off.

That kettle was the only thing I could come up with in that short time, but she loves her kettle. I put a moist papertowel in it and today I found several skin pieces all over. Still a ways to go but I keep misting so we'll be fine I think.

Today was feeding day and she just went for that f/k and coiled right around it. That dead mouse wasn't going anywhere. hahahaha

Smart girl. She used her body to help push the mouse in.

Now that's what you call a mouse full. hahahaha

You should still have some sort of hide at BOTH ends of the viv otherwise if it wants to hide it has no choice of temperature - even a cardboard box will do for now but the snake must have a choice of temps when hiding.
