i like fish tanks, my brother used to have an AWESOME huge tropical fish tank. don't some cichlids try to eat each other?

Yes, that is why it's better to start with fry(so I'm sold) I have always wanted one. It was weird I went into a pet store and went to the fish section, not the reptiles. lol

Grats man, they are awesome, I bred them for a long time as a kid.
Lil' tip: If you feed them brine shrimp for a few weeks as babies they get HUGE and RED, They get easily double the length of normal ones when fed brine shrimp as babies.

Get them away from the fish tank!! Ha. Very nice. I am jealous. I've got some early 1900's Robert Louis Stevenson packed away. got them at a yard sale for next to nothing. Hope to display them in our new place.

My filter just died. Keeping fish is not as rewarding as I thought.

Very nice little fry, congrats! :) I had a huge colony of convicts years ago, LOVED the aggression in those fish - IMO that's what makes cichlids WAY cooler than most other fish. It was really fun breeding them (although, not so fun for the unpaired fish in the tank at the time) watching them guard their little territory like nobody's business and protect them with the utmost diligence - and ferocity! lol It was so neat to watch the parents scoop up the adventurous babies in their mouth and spit them out back in their cave. Never kept the fancier cichlids, but maybe I will get back into fish keeping one day. ANYWAY - congrats, and good luck!:)

They are not that aggressive, well maybe for little fish. My brother kept river fish sunfish, bull head ect those are mean fish and strong. But cichlids are sexy

Thanks for the tip, they love brine. How often should I feed them it, monthly or weekly?

Thats pretty much all I fed my babies lol, they got HUGE!
Brine shrimp is a joke to breed, doesn't take any work at all.

sweet tank! didnt expect to see that on this forum but i like it. I've been on fish forums now that i have a planted aquarium and want a saltwater tank.

they look like yellow labs?
if so they are the least aggressive of african cichlids but you lose a few as they get older.
if you also feed them frozen bloodworms that helps with their colors, i also used the full spectrum pellets.
ehiems are really good filters, i have the 2213 on my 20 gallon, you might want the 2215 for a 55 gallon, youll be a lot happier in the long run.

hope this helps
