well... idk about a good deal hahah I would take him though just cause hes blind and needs a good home. See if you can talk the person down on the price.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. Because snakes don't see so well anyway and he still eats I don't see that as much of a problem. I figure a 40 gal is small enough for him to make his way around without much problems.

yea it might be alittle big i forget did it say how big he was? maybe you could get just him for less and get a smaller tank.

any where from $150-$250. So $40 still isnt bad.

I've got a 20 Gal tall at home that I use as a feeding tank, so that may do. Given those prices it may be a deal then. I should ask how he got blind because I don't want it to be due to an illness. I wonder if he could be a breeder because blindness is not hereditary, right?

Id see it as a rescue if you got it anyways the guys got it out and taking pictures while its doing a poor job of shedding.. Blindness can be hereditary but its only because of genetics and its rare. 9 times out of 10 its caused by a Genetic disorder that only effects the eye's. The other percent could be due to injury. I wouldn't be to concerned about an illness, judging from the snakes size its been around awhile.

Thanks. I seem to be drawn to animals who need something extra. Sad thing is that I started this year off with 5 animals and within 3 months I was down to only 2 because of them passing on. First my 8 year old cat got run over, then my 4 year old Dumbo rat died, and then my beloved 12.5 year old Lab girl had to be euthanized due to a ruptured liver because of a tumor. That hit home hard so now I'm into animals that last a bit longer than just a few years. :)

Thats not a snake in shed, thats a snake with retained shed...
Before you buy it, ask the owner if the snake was born with the blindness, it could be hes a idiot and hes blind because of the layers of shed (easy to fix) if he wasn't born with the blindness, what sex is the snake?

While I believe it's admirable to want to rescue animals like this, one has to consider the worst case scenario (ie, hundreds of dollars in vet bills, snake dying soon.) Given that it's blind AND the previous owner neglected it, who knows what else might be wrong with it. If you're prepared for that, great. But I'm not sure the phrase "good deal" can be applied here. :(

I'm a little sensitive to this type of thing right now, since I recently had a horrible experience adopting a dog from a "rescue" organization. In a nutshell, the rescue lady was not accurate with her assessment or health of the dog. The dog had a clean bill of health from their vet, but after going through the effort of getting the dog and then getting attached to him for two weeks, my vet examined him and found a blatantly obvious problem with his leg. She (my vet) said the problem would soon become critical, requiring a several thousand dollar surgery to repair. So we had to return the dog.

Thanks, appreciate it. Didn't mean to hijack the thread, just attempting to make my point with a real life example. If I had unlimited funds, I would have kept the dog... but unfortunately I don't. :)

I hear ya and I'm in the same position. I would love to help animals and it takes a lot for me to hold back. The person has not yet responded to me but I may not get the snake given all the concerns you guys bring up.

you didnt hijack anything... you made a good point which made me think about it also, if it was in my area i probably would have adopted it already, given im not going to spend thousands of dollars on any animal... Sounds harsh but its not worth it.
