View Full Version : Found Corn almost a year later!!!
One of my corn snakes (Spike) went missing back in September whilst I was out of the country, I was gutted to come home and find he was missing. We tore the house apart looking for him but no luck. After a while I started to give up hope of finding him, especially with three cats around the house too. But just the other day my mum went to put the wheelie bins to the front of the house, and what does she find under the wheelie bin...Spike!!!! He's much smaller than his brother of the same age but ate quite happily the night we found him. :D
Here's a pic I've recently took of him

So glad he's fineally back home safe and sound! :D

Cool.. Always good when a lost one turns up.. Surprising that he lived through our winter though. :)

Oh congrats on finding him! That has to be a record or something for finding a snake after lost.

Wow! That's incredible he survived so long on his own like that! And I must say, he doesn't look in rough shape either!:) CONGRATS!!

awww! well done to spike for surviving bless :)
I'm going to take a pic of Spike next to Speedy (his brother of the same age) in the next few days, I'm trying to avoid handling him too much for now, don't want to stress him out. When we first found him he was quite lethargic, I had him out yesterday and he's full of energy, a definite improvement!
Here's one for you all I took the other day, I moved the camera a little too fast, i'm hoping with time he'll become less nervous

He looks great.
Agreed!! Which leads me to wonder...what was he eating? "Wheelie bin" is not a term I'm familiar with, I'm guessing it's either a wheel barrel or a large garbage bin on wheels - and I'm guessing it would be in your garage? Please correct me if I'm wrong :) For an entire year to go by, and especially considering he doesn't appear thin at all, he must have had some steady food source - mice or rats? did you find his poop in your garage at all? I can't help being curious, it's just so amazing how he survived and maintained apparent good health all that time, I just would really love to know how!

What are you doing up so late:P
Snakes can go a year without eating and stay healthy if they were healthy to begin with, duno about snakes overweight lasting longer but I would assume so.

lol yeah, I should probably go to sleep soon :p heehee
That's really incredible, I have heard they can go a few months without eating, but a year?! Snakes in general just seem more and more amazing the moreI learn about them!

I don't know what condition his snake was after 10 months, but I can assume based on what I know about Shaun that the snake was fine and in good condition, otherwise he probably would have intervened?

i just mean in the wild, Maybe it would have survived that long without eating, but it would be way smaller then any snake that had been getting meals for 10 months. and it would probably get eatin by something bigger along the way.

This is a wheelie bin http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2011/5/23/1306164718217/Wheelie-bin-007.jpg
just a big plastic bin on wheels, we have ours right by the back door. We do live by a field, and our cat has been known to drop a mouse by the back door, so it's possible he could have been eating what the cat brought back, haven't seen any snake poo's though, haven't even come across any shed skins so it's still a massive mystery where he's been hiding out!
Would have uploaded sooner but recently got back from my hols...well I got my brother to take some pics whilst I held the snakes, you can't really get a good gauge of length but you can tell which is Speedy and Spike by how chunky they are

Spike on the right

and this time on the bottom, you can see also Spike's face looks less mature than Speedy's
Here's a better shot of Speedy...

His face def looks more mature than Spike's
So far Spike has been eating well and it's been coming out the other end normally too so things are definately looking positive for him :)
