Hey there,

This is Smokey's home which is a 55 Gal Aquarium with two separate lids. It has 2 thermostats and one Humidity thermostat as well as an under the tank heating pad on the right and a 100 Watt heating light on the top right. The right side is usually in the upper 80's and the left side runs around 75.

For ground cover, I used just plain newspaper on the right and Aspen bedding on the left (I made the bedding rather thick because my lil dummy likes to fall down when trying to negotiate the inside rim of the tank). Also, I prefer Aspen because it retains moisture longer than other substrate which help keep the humidity around 50 (It climbs to 80 when I mist).

The tank has two hides. One is an over turned Halloween bucket and I just cut out a hole. That is place right under the heat lamp and over the heating pad for some nice warmth. Smokey loves to go there after eating. The other hide are 3 different size plumbing pipes that I cleaned really well and connected them.

I've also put two branches in for climbing. It was one big branch that fell off a tree after a storm so I broke it in half, hosed it down with bleach, and then scrubbed it off.

Ideally I would love to put some more climbing structures in it and some fake plants, but because I am a new snake owner (3 weeks) it'll take some time to get there.

Oh yes, Smokey is a Het Piebald Python (at least that's what the previous owners told me) and he is a boy. And so very docile and sweet. I can even pet his head and he doesn't mind at all.

I appreciate any input if you see something that I should do differently. Afterall, I want him to be a happy lil boy. :freakedout:

Looks great, i'd just watch that the lamps dont nuke your humidity. but it looks like you taped or wrapped the top to solve that.
I'll wait for someone else to comment on temperatures, I cant remember them 100%

Dont worry about climbing too much Royal pythons arent really climbers. The aspen will mold if kept damp you want to be careful as the mold will be dangerous to the snake.

Looks like you have a nice normal there.

Temps should be 91f hot spot and humidity shouldnt stay at 80 too long. 55-60 is fine and up it to 70 when he is in blue/shedding.
