my bp has settled down nicely

hi all.
when i got my bp firstly, due to the numerus comments and threads that says ball/royal pythons are temperamental feeders at the best of times, i thought there would be trouble ahead with her not feeding.

its now 3 feeds later and she even striked and constricted for her last feed (today as her second feed was last thursday) and so ive never had a problem, i feel so happy that my snakes are perfect feeders - all of them and that i never had a problem.

on a slightly different note; my boa has gone into the start of shedding process and gone blue so expect fresh shed pics of him soon.

There aren't really that many post/threads driving this point. Yes, they can be finicky eater but the majority of us have never had much if any of an issue with feeding. If you're getting your snakes from a good breeder after they've eaten a couple good meals you should be okay.

Glad to hear it's all working out well. :) Will be looking for the post shed pictures.

Give it time my BP fed great for a few months and then stopped for three months over winter and has now started again - its all down to the individual snake really and there are probably as many such threads for other types of snakes as there are for BP's

true but im wondering if its a male snake thing, could males be going off food during the winter months to simulate there natural feeding habits with hibernation.

Sex doesn't matter. Yes males might be more inclined to go off-feed during the winter months, but I've had just as many females go off-feed. Actually, out of my 3 pickiest BPs, 2 are female. One of the females NEVER missed a meal for the greater part of the year and then BAM. You may get lucky, you may not.

Where you get the BP doesn't matter either. A reputable breeder is more likely to sell you a BP that is feeding regularly, but that BP could decide to go off-feed unexpectedly. Nearly all of my snakes are from reputable breeders, but this doesn't change the BP's mind on when it wants to eat.

i need to ask u all something, my bp is more active during the day with pretty much no movement during the night, what does all of you bp`s do as if its common for bps to be more active during the day, then i may consider getting a uv lamp.

They dont need UV as a rule - mine started of as being the most active snake i own during the day and then after his settling in period he is now rarely seen!! It may just be the "how the hell do i escape from this place" period and he will settle into a noce hidey hole at some point and never be seen again!!
