This is my first ever posting, guess it's a good place for an introduction:)
My name is Katrina, I have owned and loved many animals throughout my life, but my biggest interest was always reptiles. I volunteered 4 years while in school during vacation time at a reptile zoo, and loved every minute of it (if it paid better than my lawfirm I would still be there). After moving, I had to sell and give away my collection, but I am slowly building with currently 4 corns (fire, Hypo Bloodred, Amel and Ghost) and a lipstick sunglow boa constrictor - which I am SO excited about as he is being shipped to me this thursday!!:D

Welcome, It's a shame some people take wealth over happiness.
I wouldn't be so quick to judge if I were you - would you be happy to try and support yourself on minimum wage your whole life, or would you be happy that you helped out such a great place for free for 4 years giving of your vacation time because you just wanted to help out when you could? It's just reality, It's not a job that would pay the bills, and it does not in any way make me a "sell-out" for choosing a job that could support myself, a family, and even my reptiles - which I could not afford if I stayed at the zoo. That zoo is small, seems to have more volunteers than employees, so I might not have even got a job there. I never even asked to be hired, because I just valued and loved the experience and education gained so much that I didn't care that I wasn't getting paid to work, and work hard - so please don't judge me because you really don't know the kind of person I am.

Two thumbs up!
Besides that, when we have secure incomes, we can better provide for our pets.
You said your self "if it paid better" I was just saying.

Thanks infernalis!:) I do have to remember though to be careful when posting, I know it's so easy to write something that portrays a much more negative image of oneself than what is actually the case - that's what is often dangerous about writing, the lack of context. I have seen many a "beat down" on others as a result of this, or just poor choice of words...I just don't want to be one of them!:p

I understand that, and I agree with your point, actually. It IS sad when people choose money over passion - but in my case, I have not given up my passion, in fact, having a job that pays helps facilitate my passion that will only keep growing. Also, I do remember the staff at the zoo dissuading me from seeking a job placement there because the pay was so poor.
BUT in your defense, it was partially my fault, as I realize the statement appears to imply what you pointed out, at least on it's face. I just wanted to correct my image that I feared was already being tainted an ugly color from my very first posting!:p No hard feelings whatsoever:)

That was my point exactly. "It's sad when people...." Not, It's sad how KrazyKat chooses money over passion. For all I know your passion could be to work in a law firm.

Ok, so call me dumb for asking, but would you like me to post pics in this thread, or another? And of me, my snakes, or both? Total newbie, so please excuse my ignorance:p

Thank you radstusky!:) I am in Ottawa, Ontario. Not the biggest reptile community here, sadly, Toronto and Montreal seem better for that. But oh well, a little road trip here and there doesn't hurt:p

Actually, Ottawa has a decent reptile community. There is a group called OARA (Ottawa reptile and amphibian association) I've been a member for a while and they are great. It's only 25$/year and you get pretty cool newsletters and a great forum. A bunch of us go herping at least once a month!
There are also fantastic herping areas in the ottawa/gatineau area!

No way! I had no idea - I will definitely look into joining OARA, thanks Stephan:) Thanks so much for that info - I would LOVE to go herping with a group, I've always wanted to do that - the most I've ever done is turn over logs and rocks in search of salamanders in the Charleston Lake area, frog and toad "hunting", and "rescuing" red bellies, garters and turtles off the road LOL

That's not TOO far - I like taking a drive to visit friends in N.Y. at least once a year, it takes around 9 hours. Road trips are fun - well, I should say only when they involve other people in the car with you:p

Tell you what, I'll post a pic here the guy sent me (as I don't have him yet) but sadly, he is in shed, so his colors aren't so nice. Also, he's my avatar, but that's him like 4 or 5 weeks ago.
The breeder tells me that he's got a lot more pink on him than you can see from these pics. Both his parents are lipstick line direct from Tom Burke, and his mum is one of the nicest kahl sunglows that the breeder has ever seen, apparently, she's really white and pink - I will also post a pic of her when he sends it to me.
I PROMISE I will post up to date pics of my guy after he's shed, and settled in next weekend or so:)

The fact that your snake tolerates you and hates your hubby made me laugh lol, my snake never shows any aggression with me, but hates my dog (she licked its face) and hates my mom lol!
Patience can only take us so far, where are them pics!!

Lol Ok, ok! I’ll snap some tonight! :p - but just FYI, my camera is a piece of crap lol. I was hoping to get a good one before going paparazzi on my snakes...so don’t say I didn’t warn ya! I will try my best though to work with my camera, so hopefully I’ll get at least a couple with true-to-life color. BTW - any suggestions on good cameras I should be shopping around for? :)
