Hey all... I recently joined this site cause i got a new snake and love the informatiom available. I posted a few days ago about training (if possible) my young new Dumerils to eat frozen thawed . Anyway...i offered F/T in a seperate enclosure and the snake would not have it...so i fed it live in it's home and that went fine. Today was very interesting... this snake is very easily handled....seems to LIKE being picked up..weird.. To get to the point i took a small step and decided to feed it live again but in a seperate small container with no decor. i placed a small rat pup in the container then the Dums....the snake crawled out of my hands EXCEPT for a small loop in it's tail and hit the prey.....then it retracted itself into my arms and ate.....CRAZY cause i did not see THAT coming and did not want to interrupt it's meal...So i go to put the snake back in it's home afterwards but it did not want to go... had to push it off!! Normal behavior???? Yes the temp and humidity is right in it's enclosure, it seems affectionate!

snakes dont have the brain power to be affectionate, or like you for that matter.
It may be cool but you could really injure the snake by feeding live.
Try to warm the frozen rodent at room temp then warm the head with a blow dryer or hot water, if the snake doesn't take it, leave it in there overnight and if its still there by morning throw it away. DON'T try again till next week and DON'T feed him live again.

Because he isn't sick, he should eat when hes hungry, and if he doesn't just wait till hes REALLY hungry:P

He should make the switch eventually if you are patient and dont try live again.

I know i should switch him to F/T and i am going to...I did initially try but he completely ignored the food. I thawed it warm water for about 20 min. I thought getting him to eat in a sepereate enclosure would be a good first step...but obviously he/she is'nt nervous about eating at all.... so it's just a matter of getting him on the frozen prey. I'll try the waiting game and offer once a week as you suggest and see what happens!
