hello
So after 5 years of being snakeless we are working on a new collection.
At the moment I have 2 columbian red tails, a 7 year old female and a 3 year old male breeding and they have been goin at if for about a week now...
I have the temps in the upper 8o's trying to keep my hubby and daughter from turning the lights off at night so they are at a steady temp. Ive also been bouncing around here on the forums trying to get as much info as possible without having to ask questions that have been asked a million times over. I seen on another post someone mentioned if the female has ovulated... how do you know if it has? would they be breeding if she hadnt?
How long do they breed for? Sometimes she looks as though she would like to get away from him but then next time I look they are goin at it again. Should I take him out and give them a break and call the deed done?
How do I know if she is pregnant or gravid?

On a different note I have another male who has quit eating recently that used to eat like a champ... does anybody know if it could be because of the female in the same room thats breeding? you know like a pharamone thing?

I appologize for the onslaught of questions I really have been lookin for answers so I wouldnt have to ask but my computer time is limited since my laptop bit the dust... :(

Whenever I breed snakes I follow the same pattern, 3 days on 2 days off, if she wants nothing to do with him I try another day.
When a snake ovulates there is a window of a few hours when she looks like an over-inflated balloon.
If I see a lockup, i wait till its over and give them another break. Once you see an ovulation just be patient.

During breaks try to feed them SMALL meals, but don't be surprised if they seam uninterested.
