so i fed my dumerils boa a few minutes ago (3rd feeding i've done with her since i got her) and im starting to notice that she grabs the rat pup (F/T) and stays wrapped around it for a long time before she starts actually eating. its a dead mouse so i know it isnt waiting for the heart beat to stop....is this normal for a dum to wait a while before eating? or is it something i should be worried about?

thanks

Some snakes have a really hard prey drive and will constrict forever dead or alive. Some snakes seem to barely constrict at all. Some snakes don't constrict and just eat. Its normal and just another part of your snake's personality :)

alright cool, thanks.....the last time i fed it, it held on for like 10-12 minutes....the rat pup was totally flattened....looked like it had been through a compactor.....lol as long as she eats, im happy

I have a corn and a SD Retic that both squeeze their already dead prey for a good 20 mins before bothering to htink about actually eating. My BP will latch on and eat without constrictin as will my two other corns. My GTP and JCP pretty much inhale whatever prey is given to them - they barely finish their strike before they are swallowing.

Everyone response is normal - for them.
