Car Choice

I appreciate some of you dont have access to UK models of these but any thoughts or experiences would be greatfully received.

I have come to a choice of 2 cars for my next vehicle.

VW Touran 1.6 Diesel Automatic "S" spec (pretty basic)

or

Citroen Grand Scenic 1.6HDI Auti VTR+ (lots of bells and whistles!)

Anyone driven either? Or had any experiences with them?

I'm jealous of the various models you folks across the way get. The UK has always gotten the best versions of US compact cars. I hate fords but if I could get my hands an a UK Focus RS i would take it in a heartbeat. Anyway. I would go for the Citroen out of those two. Mainly because I've had experience with a couple crappy VWs in the past and VW parts over here are INSANELY expensive. Might be different your way. Also diesel is quite a bit more expensive. I was looking online and it seems they are fairly on par with one another. I guess it boils down to price and how many creature comforts you want. I just went through hell with getting something fixed under warranty. Make sure you pay special attention to that and read it carefully before you sign a damned thing ha.

the joys of being disabled - i pay for none of the parts/servicing/warranty etc and i dont have to buy the car either! :) I also dont actually OWN the car - more like a lease type thing for three years.

Well then I think it is all about comfort and how many herp supplies you can carry :) You'll need to name it too. I always name my cars. Current one is named Ida.

In that case it must be the citroen - all 5 rear seats fold flat into the floor - room for wheelchair (or two or three vivs :rolleyes: ;) )

I'm a VW guy. I'm on my third one now and I don't find it to be any more expensive than the honda I had years ago. Plus euro spec cars are built better than north american spec cars. Try them both out and see which one is more practical and comfortable for you.

I had a day long test of the Citroen tuesday and ordered one - just got to wait for it to be made and delivered!! The drive is unbelievable, the size/height of the car is perfect for me and it has lots of gadgets to play with too!! :)

Will post a pic when it arrives but likely to be August before it comes.

£1.39 a liter at the moment, getting near $3/litre i think!

the touran will be more expensive to run and insure as its a higher group, the citroen will be cheaper on running and maintenance being french and the vw will be more reliable due to german engineering, basically, theres good and bad points about both cars, but i will put it down to 2 things for u rob:

1.) if its cheap running, insurance and maintenance costs you want, go for the citroen.

2.) if its reliability hat your after, then go for the vw
