View Full Version : Can anybody Help me Figure Out what Kinda Snake this is?

Well it was under My Car Port (I Wasnt Home) My dad cought a picture of it it was curled up and wouldnt move. Sigh i wish i was home i could have done a better job trying to catch it and set it lose btw they wernt going to hurt it they were gonna set it lose so can you help me figure out what it is? i love animals but it crawled back under my porch

Hmm... Where (city and state) was this guy seen? I'm no expert, but if I know the location I can look up the native species of that area and try and figure it out. =)

Not sure where you live, but it could be a northern water snake.

It's hard to tell, but Nerodia sounds about right, and they are native to Tennessee .

It's a black rat snake.

My first thought was black rat snake, but the photo is kinda dark so I'm not sure.

i know the photo is dark sry..... are rat snakes that big it was preety big and was hissing and was really getting pissed and the poor thing wouldnt move

he did pop up and strike when trying to be moved i dont know he was just laying under our car port area just in the wide open he ended up escaping and getting under the porch :( i wish i could lure him back out and put him in a safe place so none of you guys think this is venumous?

My answer was not a guess folks. He's a black rat, he's not venomous, leave him alone you'll be fine.
This is a guess , but it could be a black rat snake
