Found this little fella under a pallet at work. I think he was munching on some slugs. What is it? And, it's supposed to say cute, not cut. it's 4 in the morning here......

I'm not convinced it's Storia. The body and head shape are either off or the picture color and focus are very off.

I guess I better take a picture of my little girl I keep. She has an unusually narrow face for a Dekayi.
Speaking of, I just fed her, she was so cute jumping at the hemostats with her little mouth open "gimme gimme that worm"

I used to keep one, she was gravid, delivered 21 babies.
I'll dig out my old pics.

Each of the squares on the bottom of the poly box are 1 inch by 1 inch.
The worm is a baby night crawler, the slugs are hatchlings (very tiny slugs)

Hey Wayne, how do you keep night crawlers and slugs through the winter? Or do you buy them?

I used a big old chest freezer, I filled it half way up with compost and soil.
The top sealed well enough to keep them in. Slugs would go right up the side.
By the way, the freezer was broken, so it was not plugged in.

And they only eat worms/slugs their entire life? We got some light brown ones and green ones here in Texas.

No such thing as green ones.
What they are is Rough Green Snake (Opheodrys aestivus) an insectivore that eats spiders and crickets.
Storeria also eats snails

do you ever replace the soil?

I use soil all the time with a ton of herps, it's perfectly natural and a great substrate =x

NO eventually the freezer rotted apart, so it's gone now.
All I have now is one adult Dekayi girl, and she takes worms just fine, so there's no need for a slug farm anymore.

The only thing I worry about soil is the "additives" that might come with it. Ya know not sterilized and all. For a wild caught herp it wouldn't matter so much but for one that has been in a "perfect" environment the entire time its a bit different.

I'm spoiled here, probably one of the very few places left in America that's not polluted.
I dig up all the soil I need back at the creek banks where it's primo.

Lucky lucky. I live in the middle of suburbia Fort Worth...everything is polluted in one way or the other. We got trucks that come by two times a day spraying bug killing chemicals on our lawns and streets. We got car cleaning drain off as well as car repair drain off...do I even need to go on?

Nope, I lived in Orlando FL for two years, I know all about metro life. I can't do it.
The stream behind my house is so clean, I can and do drink from it.
It's the same water that comes out of my faucet, the same water I'm pumping out of my sump basin, it's the local aquifer.
Those insects on my property are perfectly healthy for chomper to eat.
I have used the soil from the creek banks in my vivs off and on for years.

I hope to one day live like that. I grew up in the country. Could walk outside my home and be in a swamp. Find copperheads, weaver spiders as big as your fist, wild deer, all kinds of stuff. Of course they had mosquitoes that were the size of small dogs LOL The only downside. Honestly though that was the best part of my childhood and I hope to capture that one day again.

When I was young I took it for granted, I thought everyone lived this way.
Graduated high school and felt this need to conquer the world, and I must say, I have seen some things in my travels that drove me right back here.
Brasil with all of it's natural wonders, incredible animals and never ending hot weather was beautiful, right up until I realized that there was no "middle class" just rich and poor with the rich people exploiting the poor people..
Europe was nice to see, but they have had industry and civilization so much longer than us, all the waterways are sewers, the population density is too darn thick for me.
Glad I got to see it all, makes me realize just how awesome this place is.

19 foot hedges that run between my yard and the neighbors. Or has my wife calls them built in privacy fence.
