I "cheat" and do the same thing with fresh substrate to give the illusion of an in cage photo.

What's the idea behind a light box? I've never heard of them.

its either;
1.)the white paper absorbs the light from a camera flash and you get better colours off the snake inside.
2.)the white paper reflects background lighting so you dont need to use the flash on the camera to get a brighter photo.
more than likely to be the last option lol

Thats pretty cool.
I've been meaning to try this myself as I always have a hard time with lighting in my photographs.
Good tip on adding some natural substrate, Wayne.
This YouTube video was created and shared by a member of another reptile forum not too long ago. I thought it was a pretty good tutorial and kinda funny too. Though in my opinion wild animals are best photographed in their natural environment. Anyway, hope you enjoy :)

@ LiL_Boa - Maybe try some larger, thicker craft/construction paper. Also, you could try containing Steve under a container for a few minutes so he's settled down and in a coiled up position.

maybe try adding some light to the box... that may work.

a white fabric bed sheet works awesome, as does black.
Black backgrounds are sweet.
towels work well and add texture to the background.
Someone recently posted pics using what looked like a black corduroy or denim material and I thought those looked rather nice.
