View Full Version : Double take moments....

Frequently while I am out and about I see or hear things that make me do a double take and for the life of me I cannot figure out what is going on with what I see or hear.
I thought it might be interesting if we had a thread in which we could share these moments and maybe we can offer up ideas about what was happening in those moments.
My opening double take moment was the other night when I was picking my daughter up from GS. While driving through an upper middle class neighborhood I saw a man in full fire fighter gear in his back yard sitting by what I assume was a small fire. I could not see the base of the fire, only the flames...for the life of us my daughter and I could not figure out what the heck he was doing. So far we are thinking he's a paranoid griller....any ideas?

I agree. Training himself somehow. Weather it's drills to put it out or just get used to being in full gear in the heat of fire.

MAybe he is a conscientious arsonist? Scared to burn anything anywhere but his garden and wants to be safe?

Ah, perhaps he was taking care of his weeds with controlled burns...

Sorry about that, we burn our grass about every year.
I do it before any snakes come out from winter brumation.

Of all the ways to go, freezing to death isn't one I'm hoping for. Sucks to be such a delicate race :(

i was told once that drowning is actually the most peaceful way to go... i then had a debate with the teacher about how if there was anybody who could tell you how peaceful it was they would be dead and that inhaling and choking on excessive amounts of water while dropping into a deep abyss doesn't exactly fit my figure of "peaceful".
He stood corrected... makes me wonder what some people put into their lesson plans sometimes... lol

I saw a guy testing a riding lawn mower this evening at a local implement dealer with a motorcycle helmet on. I just had to laugh.:freakedout:

Let me dig out some pics.. I run a park open to the public, and I have seen a LOT of "moments" that most people would never see.

Why burn the grass? Cheaper than mowing? Weed control? Tick control?
Burning grass accomplishes a few things.
1. It removes all fuel that could feed an accidental fire later on.
2. it completely cleans the ground.
4. the ash fertilizes the soil so the regrowth comes back very healthy and green.
5. it destroys the eggs of many parasitic insects
6. It helps me find all the big rocks that mess up the mower during the summer.
