View Full Version : Gargoyle Gecko
Gonna post here since gargs are rhacs too ;) And this section seems a little bare.
Picked this guy up at the local pet expo last weekend. He hatched July 2, 2010. These pics show him fired up, when he's fired down he's almost white - hope to get more pics soon for comparison.

Those things are extremely anti human. Vicious geckos. Cute though.
Thanks guys :)

Their care is similar to other New Caledonian Geckos like the Crested. They like standard room temperature around 72F, lower than 65F or above 85F can be dangerous. Medium to high humidity (50%-70%), so a good misting in the morning and in the evening. Substrate can be as simple as paper towel or more natural like eco earth, soil, moss. Since they like to climb so a taller cage is preferred, I've got mine in a 18"Dx18"Wx24"H Exo Terra. Accessories can include fake plants, branches and vines, or a live planted vivarium. A diet of Clark's or Repashy Crested Gecko Diet (CGD) three times a week, supplemented with dusted crickets once a week is what I've commonly read suggested and what I'll be trying with my guy.

They can be a little skittish and take some time to get used to being handled just like most reptiles. Most people I've spoken to that have worked with Cresties and Gargs, seem to agree that Gargs tend to settle down quicker and be less flighty. Just like with snakes the best method for holding them is doing the slinky or hand-over-hand, and not cupping or grabbing their body or especially their tails or they may drop them. Mine licked CGD off of my finger the other night and I've heard it's quite rare for them to bite. I guess it all depends on how much time is put into handling.
Just had him out for another hand feeding. He was fired down so I took some pics before his evening mist, here's one:
