What edition is the book? If you look online you can find important information regarding editions and reprints that fix typos.
Once you have this you can check your book for these typos and then its quality/if its a reprint and edition.
Humphrey, Milford Oxford University Press Londond

NICE FIND! That old trap is an old Victor, those can be worth a bundle, do you see any markings on it that might be helpful in identifying it?
Hard to read i have no idea what it says im not worried about how much its worth im keeping it as a hunter i like it jw the age and rarity

I don't know much about old traps, but i do know a decent amount about long spring victor traps because i own a few. The pan on that one looks fine, and so does the dog, I would test how well the dog connects to the pan.
If you aren't interested in selling it and want to use it I would try setting it (if you don't know how i can try describing it)
I have already tested it out. Worked good, I am assuming it was used for small mammals it destroyed a turkey bone

If properly used those traps shouldn't break bones, the old ones didn't have ofset jaws and they were stronger then they needed to be. I have a few traps that i use for coons, and some days i really don't feel up to cleaning a racoon (they have a huge layer of fat under their skin) so i just release them all, the newer traps hold on but don't damage.
I wouldn't advise using it if its way stronger then it needs to be.
What size is it?
i set it once just to see i live next door to Emergency lol
9 " long w/out the chain
7" wide set

Na man, sorry.
I use the new stuff, all i know about that piece is, if its old which i believe it is, the dog and the pan are in fantastic condition, even with the rust, its still quite sellable. And although i don't know what its worth it looks like the rust is surface and it wouldn't take much work to clean it wax it and stain it.
I kinda like the way it looks all rustic

Actually, the wax doesn't really change the way it looks it just prevents future damage and makes it snap more smoothly, and the stain is generally done by boiling water over a fire and "cooking" gunky nasty hazelnuts or some other similar item and them removing all of the nasties 20-30 minutes later and boiling the traps for 15-20 minutes, this is to make it blend in with whatever you use to force them to step on that specific location.
You can skip the staining and just wax them if you like the way they currently look.

Nice finds, where did you get it all originally?
A farmer rented my parents a house when they were out of school. When I turned 10 they purchased the property (15 acres) tore it down and rebuilt. Back in the day people would either bury or burn their garbage and i dug it up
