Hi Folks, need help. my BP has been excessively soaking...

frequency is daily - for 3 to 4 hours...

initially, she was only soaking pre shed, but just recently, after her last shed, she has been soaking like crazy.

i have checked her for mites and did not find any, she seems to be in perfect health, no RI, good weight...

i am beginning to think that she is just hot that is why she soaks.

temps here in the Philippines are 31 ºC = 87.8 ºF (early morning and evening) and up to 34 ºC = 93.2 ºF during the day....

Thoughts? should i be worried?:confused::confused:

If those are ambient temperatures then yes it is too hot surface temps on the hot side so be in that ball part with a cool side around 75-80 I have found that along with a ambient of around 78-80 to work great

any suggestions on how to cool down the temps?

Really the only thing is to increase air circulation - have heard that balls dont like temps once they get near 95F, 91f should be the hot spot.

He is quite likely using the water to cool himself down.

thanks lanky! now i am having a dilemma on temps vs humidity. i can remove my top cloth cover to reduce temp but i will surely reduce humidity..

wow... this is tough. i know most of you guys live in colder places and not having this problem. but yeah i will try to increase air circulation.

May just have to up the frequency that you mist the cage until the weather changes

My suggestion is to try and find something that doesn't have a screen top. It should be easier to maintain temps as well as humidity.

ok, i thought you meant those were the ambient air temps in your house.

are those temps for ambient air or surface? balls should have around 80 for ambient, low 90s surface on the hot side and low 80s surface on the cool side. humidity should be 50-60%. do you have a photo of your set up? also, you should have a thermostat hooked up to your heat source.

It gets purdy hot here in the summer and I have ben worried about this as well fortunately im moving into a new house and they will have ther own room but maybe you could use some form of circulation fan like the small ones used in computer towers

Maby you can air condition the room if you have that possibility and then heat the cages to the required temp using a thermostat?

For one of my big cabinets I was having issues with humidity. So I found this table top fountain in my shed. There is no body of water to poop in and its constantly flowing from leaf to leaf. My guys love it. So now I snag every fountain I can find. They have their regular water bowls to soak in but This just keeps things humid between mistings. (I fixed the moss falling down in the back ground after I took this picture.)

If your putting them outside be wary of putting the viv in direct sunlight... Or youll have a baked ball.

Yes, definitely no direct sunlight into or onto the vivs - am guessing baked balls aren't nice to have! :)

baked balls.. sounds like something you should get checked out by a doctor... I think they have an ointment for that... :D

Pretty certain that once they are baked castration is the only option! ;)

thanks! do not worry they are shaded... :) i got the temps down to 88F during the night.... and around 91 during the day. also i just realized that the humidity is not a problem since they sit on my back-yard where there is a garden watered daily. :)
