Hey. I've been an animal rescuer since I was a kid. And a few years ago I had a breeder who lost his job, was moving, &wanted out of the business, dump 23 ball pythons on me. Sink or swim I read every snake book I could find. Alot of what I read was common sense. So my addiction started that day. I now have 45 balls. a few pied, pastel, albino, Mojave. two albino Boas. And a albino corn snake that's longer than I am tall. ..whether that means I'm really short or he's really long is debatable. My bedroom is now my temperature controlled reptile room. I also build custom cabinets with vines, waterfalls, moss, tree limbs (i always bake them first). They look like chunks of forest. I also have a bearded dragon and a Savannah monitor. Most of the ppl I run into are creeped out that I have snakes and Im a chick. I don't get That.
I'm not a breeder, although I probably should be. Alot of my legless clan are extremely beautiful. I am collecting every stitch of Intel on the subject incase I ever feel the need to make the leap into breeder.
on a more personal level...and less rambely..
I live in FL. Home of the "alligators in every body of water" and " where dumbshit ppl release 20' snakes into the Everglades and ruin it for everyone".
my husband and I have been together for 15 years and I have an 8 year old son who also is a Snake enthusiast.
I was wandering around online snakey land and came across a few threads from This site. You guys seemed interesting, hence me being here now. My first forum joined.

Infernalis, my savvy is a little over a year. The person I got her from only fed her harboiled eggs so she was stunted for awhile.

She loves that log thing she's curled up on. It started as a styrofoam log sold by lemax for those little ceramic Christmas towns. (I'm a part time craft store *****) It looked pretty real. So I cut a 'cave' hole in the side. She basks on top under her lamp and climbs inside at night to sleep now. Savvys are adorable. That long blue forked toung and those red orange eyes. Reptiles to me are like kittens to others.

Reptiles to me are like kittens to others.
Last summer we had our Savannah out back in the meadow, he discovered a whole bunch of beetles and started feeding vigorously on them.
When it was time to bring him back in the house, the marks he left on my arm resembled that of a tiger kitten playing scratch post:eek:
99% of the time, he's a big dufus and just so lovable, that other 1% he's like a bipolar off meds.

Not really. Not in my area. Mine, who live in large apothecary jars All habitated out, in my kitchen are the only ones I've seen around me. I started with one and hatched babies a couple of years ago.

I've lived in other places around Florida and I was knee deep in widows. This past winter we had record freezes and I'm sure the local widow population took a hit.

Try this, cut a small square of paper just big enough to cover the flash on your camera, use a little scotch tape to hold it down, be careful not to cover the focus sensor.
Presto you now have a flash diffuser for about a penny.
I also have some PAR lights that I turn on to act as photography lights, any reflector lamp will do, our local Home Depot just had a two pack of these for $4 on sale..

Ah I see now.
Every once in a while I like to put a towel on my kitchen table and I put the floodlights in the ceiling fan fixtures, it basks the whole table, then I do this.

He spun it around quite quick. Those guys are some of my most aggressive feeders. I just upped them to fuzzy mice, they were demanding 4-5 jumbo pinkies each before they stopped being "nippy"
It takes them longer to eat the bigger prey, but 1-2 fuzzies fills them up.
Same snake moments later... these guys are finger biters when they get hungry.

I'd love to know what the actual name is of the snakes all over my property. The closest thing I can find is a "common black snake" but I would think there's more to it than that. 4+ft long, black and shiny, white bellies. They seem pretty friendly. They will come right up to you and poke you with their face. I had a huge one shoot across my foot this morning. They move so fast its damn near impossible to get a picture.

They are only marginally feistier than a corn snake.

My cousin has a few scarlet king snakes, his gf's dad is a science teacher at a highschool and he yelled out CORAL SNAKES when he walked into their house.
It's difficult to teach them how to tell one snake from another because their level of panic doesn't give them time to think

Ain't that true~
Makes me think of a conversation I had with a friend about hognoses. They completely paniced and thought I was crazy and going to get a bunch of hots because I said hognoses were adorable and I wouldn't mind one at one point of time.
Oh, and of corse they are people that try to tell my my ball python will be 70 feet long and eat me whole. lol.

Did you ever see the video of that guy and the non venomous false water cobra, he let it chew on him for 5 minutes rofl.
Nothing funnier then an "expert" letting a rear fanged mildly venomous snake chew on him and saying "i hope its not venomous"
