I'm not sure how I stumbled upon this video, but this host just fascinates me, when you watch the video you'll understand.
he does a similar thing with a kind of tarantula that gets hairs in his eyes... i just don't understand how he can have a show...

I wouldn't even go near that nest!! I dislike ants very very much! I hate the feeling that they might be crawling up my legs and all over me!
He sure is special, even more so once you watch the tarantula video! ughhhh I can't ever imagine doing that!

theres a tv programme over here where the guy goes around the world be stung and bitten by various venomous creatures then being monotrered by a medical team to see his body's reactions to it.
in one episode he wore these ceramonial wicker gloves filled with bullet ants for 2 hours (i think) as part of an initiation ceromony done by a tribe he was visiting its was their transition into to manhood ceromony
it looked damn sore and his blood pressure pulse etc shot up to crazy levels
it was a very interesting programme imo
cheers shaun

The tarantula video was really creepy. Those hairs are supposed to be like getting pepper sprayed with little needles. He doesn't even react. He even puts the spider near his eyes on purpose. :sorry:

Are ants turned off by anything? When we went to Daytona beach for a few months my family was getting bitten like crazy by fire ants but i never got bitten once, even after digging through the fire ant nest for a whip snake. They would climb all over my skin but would never bite.

AHAHAHAHAHAH that just made my entire day :P
I KNOW! those little tarantula hairs make me shudder!!
Hmm that ant deterrent question is neat, I'll be interested to find out if there is something that keeps them away
I could never ever ever ever let ants bite me on purpose! even with a medical team, I hate the feeling of little bugs crawling all over me, if they don't move/bite they don't bug me, i go crazy when they start moving all over

I got used to roaches ages ago, my family spends allot of time in cuba and there are lots of large roaches there, easiest fishing bait to find:P

*shudders* i HATE when bugs walk on me. but if they hold still everything is good.
at my cottage 2 of my neighbours study bugs and reptiles so my sister and i always go to hold them and see them and learn about them. My sister even got into a magazine holding one of the caterpillars. if i can find a picture of the caterpillar I'll attach it

When I stayed in Brasil the roaches were as big as my breeder Dubia, geckos are welcome to free roam the houses, and it was a common occurrence to be sitting at the table and see a decent size gecko run up the wall with a big insect in it's mouth.
It's nothing really once you get over the "heebie jeebies" many people get bothered by insects in the woods, we spend all summer back in our forest. I quit letting insects "bug" me a long time ago.

I never understood what was wrong with roaches, i mean people don't like them because they eat rubbish but half the bugs out there do.

Of all the varied species of roaches, I think it's something like only 4 that are pests.
A colony of big tropical roaches is fascinating to watch..

Wayne, don't you breed or didn't you used to breed roaches? Would you be able to post a picture here just so I can see what it's like?

When the dude started crying after getting bit and stung, I thought..."serves you right."
Here's a male and female of my Roaches. I can't get a family portrait cause they scatter when I turn the light on. They're pretty cool, I think, but chicks tend to think they're gross.

They are sweet the only thing that still gets me is when the light goes on and they scatter making that roach "scratchy" noise. I can handle them dig through their dirt etc with mo probs but that noise goes right through me.

aha yes, been there done that, cept it was the neighbours shed housing the skunks and we have 2 dogs. dad got home from his afternoon shift (around 1am) and lets the dogs out. trying to get skunk smell out of two dogs in the wee hours of the morning is not very fun.
Rob, I know exactly what you're talking about when you mention the sound!
Wow, they don't look tooooooo bad, so long as I wasn't covered in them and they were holding still :P ahah i know, if you know that the bite/sting will hurt and you still choose to do it then sorry, i don't think i'll be sympathizing for you

They're so neat looking... they kind of remind me of other smaller bugs but magnified, just like bigger versions of them. they're pretty cool.
We used to breed/keep crickets... they smelled way too much so it didn't last long

I have a problem with what I call the "ninja species." They will be chillin all " Oh hai!" on your shoulder and you would never know. Bothers me. My capture strategy includes a bit of cardboard and a pint glass. Catch them. Throw it outside and that glass be damned till morning haha.

My family has a unique method of dealing with insects that enter the house when I'm not home. They call the cat over, then use a laser pointer to lead the cat to the insect.
Its funny to watch and always works:P

Get a more powerful laser pointer and just burn up the bug with the laser beam, that would be real fun ;)

I was one of those kids that would run over to the ant the kids were burning with the magnifying glass and rescue it:P I'm not quite that... anal? now but i cant see myself burning anything to death without a damn good reason.
