Hey all. I just got a new fire skink today. I have been looking for one for a while and finally found one. He/She, not sure yet, is about 8 inches long and very bitey.

This is the best pic I could get at the moment. I will try for some better ones later.

The enclosure is a 20gallon long with the back painted black. It has crushed coconut husk for the substrate, two hides and a water bowl. I also got a fake plant in there. There is a heat lamp and a UVB lamp. 12 hour photo period. I don't have a heat pad yet, but I will get one soon. The temp under the light is about 80 deg. F. and on the cool side it is about 75. Let me know what you think. The heat lamp is a 60w red bulb and the UVB is a Zilla tropical series 25 15 watt T8 in a fish tank hood. Let me know what you think. I am currently in the process of upgrading all of my enclosures, so this one will get all kinds of bells and whistles along with the others.

He is a trouble maker. He already bit the crap out of the fiancee. She was not happy.

At 8 inches im assuming there were no long-term scars, well... physical scars the mental ones never heal

I can imagine why she was less than thrilled

No long term scars, it just gave her a couple of punctures. The cat does more damage when it is "playing."

Thank you all. Now that I have him, I need to get him to be less bitey. That may take some time. I am going to wait a few more days to let him get settled in a little more first.

yh that is a good idea, its a case of sod the biting, as you have to take them to settle the animal down, theres no other way to do it

He should be good to start handling in about a week or so. The bearded dragon did not even take that long to settle in. He was friendly and curious from the get-go. But I will give this guy his space for now.

Any one think I should give him a bigger water dish?
