Picked this up at my local Wal Mart for a whopping $3 (US funds)
For snakes without humidity requirements, Kings, Corns, Garters, etc... it makes a fine cage bedding.

thats a very good price wayne and aspen looks great in tanks sadly i cannot use it as its way too dusty and irrates carpets and at times can cause mild respiritory infection symptoms it was also bad for being ingested at feeding time
the one kingsnake i used to keep loved it he used to make tunnels everywhere so he could pop his little head up all over the place after dissaperaing under the substrate we used to take bets on where he would pop up next, haha
cheers shaun

Unfortunately I don't use a lot of it, but at that price, I shall always keep a few bags handy for quick changes of soiled cages.
I may even use it on the rats since it's a wee bit less expensive than the pine bedding I currently use.

i use it all the time and i have never found it to be dusty. i use the shredded type, not shaved. it doesn't retain humidity like husk or bark, but i don't keep any species that require high humidity. since it doesn't retain water well, it's strange that you've seen signs of ri.
Not sure? I pay $11 for 9 cu. ft. of beta chip (compressed) at my local feed shop.
