I have a California King snake, last year she layed egg's, but she was never bread. This year she was fine so I was like ok awesome. She was looking really fat for a kingsnake so I took her off food for awhile not shure how long but a month would be the max I think mabe three weeks. That may sound cruel but she was very thick. So I was about to feed her the other day, she was restless in her cage and it seem like she wanted to eat. So my sisters boy friend came over and wanted to see my snakes, when I go to pick her up she looks extremely thin I held her about three times that week and she didn’t look that thin. So I look at her last night and she wont eat which is wired because she will eat anything lol. So I then pick her up to see a lump about lower half of the body, I look again today and there are more and it looks like little sections. I am not worried that she is having eggs but that she has not eating and I am not shure how long it has been. I normally feed her all the time but she just looked to big so I thought a cut back was good. I will try some pinkies injected with waters calcium it helped last time she has a second clutch that was overdue. If anyone has any suggestions besides a laybox because that is covered please help. Luckily the rat didn’t go uneaten my Taiwanese beauty snake gladly ate it to lol.

Making incubators is pretty easy Home made incubators - Reptile Forums (http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/forums/breeding/132157-home-made-incubators.html)

Please read the question, she was never bred... any eggs produced will not be viable anyways.

I'm confused as to why anyone would intentionally "starve" a snake to help it lose weight, I would have just given it smaller meals...

I don't know what to tell you, if she has ovulated again, then you need to get her to pass those eggs, or she will become egg bound and either require a hysterectomy or die.

And yes, a good herp trained vet will perform a hysterectomy on a reptile.. any hopes of ever breeding her will be gone forever.

Live bearers can/will occasionally pass what we call "jellybeans" or "slugs" a soft mass that is an unfertile egg.

Females ovulate, even without intercourse taking place.

This is true of all living creatures.

My adult female Corn Snake at 7 years of age ovulated for the first time, that I noticed. They will usually absorb or pass the infertile eggs (aka slugs). Mine did neither and eventually required surgery. I have one other female Corn and she has also ovulated, but absorbed the past 2 years. Hence, why I will never own another female egg-laying snake since I do not breed, but keep them as pets.

Steve, without seeing your Cali King I would assume by your description and past events that she has ovulated. Females will often go off feed before laying. Hopefully things will go smoothly and she'll pass them all. I believe the egg-laying process can last a day or two (someone correct me if I'm wrong). If you notice a large lump before the vent that she's not passing then she is most likely egg-bound and a trip to the vet would be in order.

Also, I agree with Wayne that if you are concerned that your snake is overweight, decrease the size of prey and/or the extend your feeding schedule, but do not just stop feeding for a lengthy period of time. Increased handling, swimming, etc. will also help to improve muscle.

Thank you guys but she laied aggs while I was at school, I don't know why but she did. I did try feeding her smaller prey but she just got biggers so yea and she just looked really over weight like a snake after a meal but insead all the time lol. Thats why I cut her off but I understand were you are comming from by feeding her smaller prey but it dosnt work with her or maby it was just her eggs. I do giver her excursie through I bundle up my blankets while I watch tv and she diggs for hours lol. Again thanks for the help and if anyone know why they do this it would be neat to know.

umm boas dont lay eggs...

and I think she said she only went 3 wks without feeding. I get a few females that get lazy and on a feeding schedule thats not good because they become heifers and I will put them on a "diet"

I do think you should take that animal to a vet!! I dont knowmuch about eggsand all but I have seen people soak their animal in warm water and work those stuck eggs out..I would rather just take my animal to the vet if it was me though
