Mr Herp - Reptile Supplies Canada (http://Www.mrherp.ca)
This has been a lot of work. From the logo to picking the right ecommerce software and building the site etc. Still have many items to load, prices to set etc. May 7th at the latest we will be open for business.
I welcome your opinions.
Cheers.
Chris.

Just wondering why your vitamins are $999, will my herps turn into super heroes?? ;)
I know, you have not set prices on a few items yet, just had to be a goofball for a minute.

Thanks guys!
I hired a very talented, young French Canadian student artist to do the logo and couldn't be happier. She was very reasonable compared to a full time pro.

Hahahaha. Ya, most products are $999 until I launch. It was the only way I could work on the site while not reviling prices.
Cheers.

Whats funny, I often get lazy and use ready made page templates rather than write a whole bunch of HTML or PHP that has already been written.
I have accidetally left paragraphs of this on a published page....
your average page template
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Curabitur nibh. Vestibulum ante ipsum primis in faucibus orci luctus et ultrices posuere cubilia Curae; Vestibulum sapien enim, cursus in, aliquam sit amet, convallis eget, metus. Duis dui mi, varius at, lacinia eget, ullamcorper et, tortor. Pellentesque ac pede. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Aenean orci mi, varius eget, mollis
I can't wait for your site to be open for business! I live in a small town in manitoba, closest reptile supply store is 30 mins away and doesn't stock what I need! And I hate paying crazy high store prices.

The idea came to me when I first started setting up my own vivs. Almost everything I have, I ordered from the states. Canadian retailers were charging obscene prices. I was in industrial distribution for 16 years and started to make calls to manufacturers/distributors of reptile products.
I found that there was no reason for the price difference between Canadian and American retailers other than the fact that there was little competition in Canada. Yes, we do pay a little more tax to import in Canada but not to the tune of a 30-50% premium Canadian companies are charging.
Somethings I will be doing different:
I will have no minimums,
no packing fees for tubes,
no profit on shipping,
You need a one off? I will get it.
Cheers,
Chris

Hey,
Wow, nice looking website (cept for some of the prices $999 :P)
Will you have a store base in the GTA or just the website?
Best wishes & good luck!

Hahaha. Hey Kendra.
Prices will all be adjusted before we launch.
No retail store. The only way we will be able to keep prices low is if we keep overhead low. Retail space is extremely expensive.
We are going to explore a pickup option for the GTA once we are up and have a chance to assess the need for one.
Cheers.

drop ship?
mrherpdotca
04-26-11, 12:33 PM
drop ship?
Do you mean, the product is stocked elsewhere, shipped directly to the customer and I take a cut for processesing the orders?
Absolutely not. Everything on the site will be stocked in my warehouse. There will be a couple "special order" items but everything else I will have in stock in various quantities. All in stock items will ship within one business day and I will be replenishing my stock every 1-2 weeks.
It will be a bit of a learning experience. Some stuff will sell like crazy. Some will move slowly. I will adjust my inventory accordingly.
Cheers.

Yes, that is what I was talking about. I was just curious, nothing against those who drop ship.
Chris; great site, great idea! From looking at your prices for everything Herpstat alone, that alone will keep you in business.
Great to see a Canadian supply site go live to complete with what we currently have.
Also, from that tiny little picture of you and your family, you look SO familiar!
Do I know you?
Also, what's a "terannium"?

Haha, Good catch!
I know I have been on your site before. I grew up in Scarborough by the zoo. I am 38. Without your last name or a pic of you I am not sure.
Let me know when you want a deal on a Terannium,

Hmmm, I grew up near the Danforth. I'll be 36 in a week.
Did you ever work in Waterloo?

Yeah, no kidding Wayne!
It's been raining out here for three days straight and I've woken up with sore knees and the knuckles on my right hand twice now.
Knowing my walkers, that one looks like a lawsuit waiting to happen; all four legs with wheels? and no hand brake?!

I will be ready for a walker soon too. I feel like a senior sometimes.

Your store will do well because i'm looking at 10 bulbs at $50 bucks a pop.
But i do test them with UVB equipment and i will see how well they are.
And are you going to set your store up with Paypal too or?
And you have alot more that i'm looking for on your site.
And i just want to say hello from Chris and Jen Davey as well:)
And it will only take 2 days to get things shippped to my door:)

Hey Chris!
Thanks for the message!
Yes we have paypal. Actually that's all we use. You can pay with your paypal account or with a credit card without signing into paypal!
You must be talking about the powersun uvb's. I only put a few in stock because they are expensive and the trend is going towards UVB tubes and I didn't know if they would sell. If you need that type of quantity please give me the heads up on email so I can get that many in. Once the business gets going I will be picking up stock orders every week or so. We are only a week old so the word is getting out and business is coming in slowly but surely.
Thanks so much for posting!

That sounds good to me.
And what about the Solar Glo 125-160's that may be cheeper.
I have some big guy's that also need the heat from the light source.
130-170 f
Thats why i use them.:)
I would recommend stocking up on them because i know alot of others that are looking for the same thing.
MY order is around $700.lol
That's what you get when you have reptile kids.:)

Hey Chris.
There is currently a lot of bad press online about the solarglo. I cant comfirm or deny if its true. Apparently last year they changed the manufacturing process and that yeilded less than desirable results. I believe a couple other brands also had problems.
You really need to spend some time on google and find out if they have corrected the problems. I don't know the full details but it was something to do with the UVB not being produced after a very short period of time which basically gave you a $50 basking bulb.
Cheers.

I might go with T-Rex lights.
And a big problem is Mega Ray's out of stock.
I've had alot of problems with light so i'm no stranger to it.:)
This is a new set up thats why i'm looking around still.
All my other cages have Mega Ray's.
Cheers!

Hey Dan!
Thanks for the message. For the most part the companies that manufacturer these are smaller companies that manage their own sales and do not rely on a distribution network..... You best bet is to do your research and buy direct from the company that gets the best feedback on quality and service.
Anything that goes in the cage, I can help you with. :D
