I have spent the last 3 days looking, test driving, bargaining on a new car for my partner. I hate the indecision you have to put up with when taking some people car shopping lol. I have looked at maybe 20 cars and drivin at least 7 lol. All are brand new and come with smart alec sales rep's that only want a commision and dont really care where you stand on the car, price and THEM lol.
My partner finally made her choice this afternoon and I have put the deposit down and are now trying to the car in her colour. What a headache as the car has only been on the market for 2 weeks, it is very limited in how many are out there. How many you may ask, well there is 3 cars in 2 states in Australia in that colour at the moment and one of them happens to be at a dealership who i ever so politely told to buzz off. Now they dont want to release the car to the dealer whom i bought the car through!
We are hopefull to be picking it up on friday.

Well thats my random rant over.

That will be me early next year. Hate car salespeople generally tho in a lot of places being in a wheelchair means you get better treatment than a normally-abled person.

Am looking forward to driving a lot of new cars tho!

They can be really rude sometimes. Im hopefull to get this car tomorrow, as i like driving it as much as she does!

I convinced her to get a 6.0L V8 wagon, so its a toy still when i get to drive, the pice was a bit more than i planned for, but she will be keeping this one for 10 years unlike her last car.

i had a car salesperson tell me to leave the carlot before while car shopping, i asked him to get the keys and he said, keys are only for people looking to buy, can you please leave the lot, LOL i was seriosly car shopping and if that car checked out good i would have bought it, looked good, good price. test driving all the new cars makes up for the headaces tho :)

Yeah i got that this time as the cars we were looking at were around 50 grand and as we are pretty young no one believed we would actually afford to buy the car. We ended up getting this one 8 grand cheaper and the sales person was really nice, so they got my money lol.

Lankyrob

Being disabled i get what is effectively a government grant every three years to buy a new car. We get approx 20 grand to spend depending on teh manufacturer (all depends how much they can sell the car for when you give it back 3 years later). Thankfully most dealers know about the scheme so when you mention it they are very friendly and helpful cos they know the money is there to be spent.

Well i have picked the new car up now. We both like it but i already to do some modifications LOL, It does not sound like a 6.0L V8 so i will be putting dual 3" exhausts on with extractors, cold air induction, some nice new 22" rims, smoked tail lights and proberly lumpy cams. I figre with the exhaust, extractors and lumpy cams this car should sound like its really meant to!! Alos it will have a fair bit more power which is always more fun too.

Ok, I am bouncing off the walls excited and happy right now. A good friend and old coworker of my fiance has had a 1963 Cadillac Deville Park Avenue (the shorter decked sedan which they only made 1575 of) since the '80s. He finally decided that he didn't have the time or space to keep it and his '64 Corvette big block, so he put the Caddy up for sale. My fiance and I went to look at her and OMG it was beautiful! Big black sleek car with lots of chrome and red leather interior. The owner offered it to me for a steal, a price I could not refuse. "Black Beauty" has just over 100k miles, all original interior and engine, rebuilt trans with as many original parts as possible, 390ci V-8, 4-barrel carb, power steering, brakes, seats and windows. I picked her up on Saturday and have been grinning like an idiot from ear to ear since! Here she is...enjoy!

Wow,,, I have a weakness for the classics myself.

They really built cars solid back then.

Enjoy the wheels Kim.

Thanks, Wayne. I will definitely enjoy this ride. It needs some basic tune-up stuff, and the starter went on it when I went to pick it up, so it needs a new starter as well. No biggie, one can expect little issues with something 48 years old!

Will0W783

Haha, I won't, Julian. Black Beauty is on collector car insurance and antique tags. So she will only come out occasionally to go to a show or meet. She is NOT a daily driver...by any stretch of the imagination. I can't imagine it gets more than 8-10 mpg...

I have a 2009 Saab 9-3 tuned up to 250hp/286 ft-lb torque that gets 17 city/30 highway for daily driving.

I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination. It was a series of very lucky events and a bit of car-flipping that enabled me to get my Saab when I did (also GM was offering $9k instant rebate on them at the time).
The Cadillac is from a friend who gave me an incredible deal on it, and I had to take a loan to finance it until I can sell my other project car (a 1968 Saab 95 wagon V-4).

But seriously, great ride!

I'm glad I didn't! Darn those student loans....! I agree, good friends and great deals can be a blessing! (My new snake was exactly that...good friend, GREAT deal.)

I'm hopefully about 18 months or so from completion. My research is theoretical, which means I can get a lot done in a relatively short amount of time; my Master's thesis was experimental research and it took me about 18 months. To give you an idea on speed, I'm working on my 6th journal publication, and I'm only about 13 months into the Ph.D. program! (The "^" can be found by holding "shift" and pressing "6." For me it stands for "raised to the 4th power.)

And what about yourself? (I guess we are digressing slightly from the topic of this thread ;) )

Will0W783

Hahaha, Nafun. No it didn't come with pimpin' paraphenalia. lol. Since it's mostly original, I intend to keep it that way- I'm not going the pimping it out route.

Ch^4, I am in my 4th year, and with Neuroscience it's all hands-on so it takes an eon. I got my Master's at a different school, so I had to go through the whole core curriculum and such at my Ph.D. school. That was 2 years, then another year to do their qualifying stuff and I'm about to present my thesis proposal- but I have about 3/4 of the work done already, lol. I'm working on publishing my first paper, and hope to be able to write another one in about 6 months. The goal is to have 2-3 papers published by the time I graduate in 2 years. Hopefully....
My advisor lately has been bipolar-ish and driving me nuts. For example, I sent him the newest version of my proposal and he flipped out saying "WHY YOU SEND THIS?? I still working on the last version!" He's Chinese and for some reason I find his accent funny when he's angry. He also keeps coming up with more stuff he wants me to do- if I did all he wanted, I'd be there until I turned 60. lol!

01-25-11, 12:39 AM
Kim, I'm impressed! I've found that most med-bio-health sciences majors do not actually get a Master's. They go straight from BS to Ph.D. (pun intended!), and that drives me nuts!

Congrats on being close to presenting your thesis proposal! For us, that stage is called your General Exam, so it sounds like I'm about 6-8 months behind you. And definitely good luck with the publications (they are a royal pain in your butt as I'm sure you know)!

2 more years is not too bad when you actually sit down and ponder how much time you've spent tied to academia ;) An advisor that wants you to do more stuff?! No way! (Sorry for my facetiousness ;)) These advisors are crazy...brilliant, but crazy. LOL

great car kimberley

theres a programme on sky tv over here called " pawn stars "

its about a pawn shop in las vegas

i'm sure the old guy who owns the shop bought a car the same as yours and re upholstered it and gave it a good polish and it turned out a beautifull motor

if i'm being honest i'm not keen on the red dash and steering wheel the rest is just awsome though pal

cars were built to last in the sixty's imo

wonder what your neighbours are thinking now ?

oh the crazy snake ladys got a gangster/pimp mobile ...!!

the bench seat in the fronts great imo much better than 2 single seats

its about time your luck changed kimberley hope the rest of the year goes the same for you pal

cheers shaun

01-25-11, 09:36 AM
Thanks Shaun! Yeah, the completely red interior is not my favorite, but it's original to the car, so I won't be changing it. Some of the black cars came with tan or cream interiors, but this one was all red. It actually looks pretty good in person. My plan is to keep the original bits in as good condition as possible, and restore the rest back to original.
The original carburetor was rebuilt in the '80s but never put back in. It's in the trunk right now and I'm going to check it out and if needed rebuild it again and put it back on. Also, it needs the original air filter housing straightened and put back on. The previous owner had it out while he was working on the carb and accidentally ran over it with his other car. I'm not sure it can be fixed, but if not I can find another proper one on eBay most likely. I am also missing the script "Park Avenue" that was on the rear quarter panels. Those pieces were removed when the car was painted and never replaced. Since it's such a rare car, I want to replace those. There's a website where you can get them, but they're $64USD for the pair of tiny trim pieces...yikes! Neighbors will most likely go nuts when they see it- right now it's at the local Caddy dealership where my fiance works. He's having them go over all the hoses and brake lines to make sure nothing is dry-rotting or leaking before he'll let me drive it..lol.

Awesome Caddy Kim! I would love to have that one. A couple of years ago I bought a '79 Lincoln Continental as a daily driver. Sadly, I will not be able to drive it daily this summer with the rising price of gas. But you got to love those big old cars, cruising down the freeway at 75 mph is like driving down the freeway on your living room sofa! Congrats on that great car Kim!

I love thos jeeps!! I want to get my hands on a 5.9l diesel truck and take the whole drive train out and swap it in my truck, and sell that engine you see, or keep it for show and pick up a suzuki samuria << best 4x4 ever!! they go anywhere you want to take it other than the big mud holes and wont bankrupt me trying to get it to a 4x4 place lol

It has just been restored inside so both bench seats are like new, also has a new black paint job with a worked 454 big block. I love the look of the old trucks.

There was talk about this in a previous thread but i never seen it eventuate ( sorry if this has been done already ), so i figure lets start one as there are plenty of enthusiast here.

Well i have owned a few cars in my time and lost money on all of them haha ( the joy of it all ). I have owned a 2006 Ford BA XR6 turbo sedan ( 4.2 litre 6 cylinder ), 2002 Holden VT commodore ( 6 cylinder 3.6 litre ), 1994 Holden VR commodore ( 6 cylinder 3.6 litre ), 1992 Daewoo predator ( 4 cylinder 1.6 litre, good little get around rig ) and a 2011 Holden VE SS wagon ( 8 cylinder 6.0 litre ).

I still currently own a 1995 R33 GTR V-SPEC ( twin turbo 6 cylider ) which is the love of my life! I have spent countless hours and money on this car and could never bare to part with it, even if petrol went to $4 a litre lol. The GTR has G-REX ALCON 6 pot brake calipers, 265mm AP racing rotors ( 255mm rears ), HKS 3.5" straight through exhaust, JUN cams, gears, pistons, HKS oil cooler, HKS radiator, PWR intercooler, WORK meister SP3 18" rims, all HKS gauges other than the NISMO 320kmh dash, ZEIL coilovers, Garrett T04Z twin turbo upgrade running 24psi, too many to upgrades to list.

I have also just bought myself a 1998 GMC Sierra SLE 1500 pick up ( originally wanted a Dodge Ram 1500 laramie ). The GMC has a 502 ram jet big block, airbag suspension, 22"x10.5" rims, House of Kolour paint job, fully customised interior, 6 speed manual gear box, 3" stainless straight through exhaust, a massive grind cam, detroit locker diff, Westcoast custom sound system ( 3500 watts ), 12" Alpine dvd/tv and many many more extras. Looking at possibly setting this motor up for a top mount blower running 10-14psi, which would be lovely to say the least lol. Already has enough power to pop the clutch at 110kmh or 60mph and start smoking the tyres so the blower would be lethal and would push me over 1000hp.

I would love a original Dodge RT charger, 68 pontiac transam firebird, 67 camaro ss, dodge viper srt10, 67 mustang, bugatti veyron, ferrari fxx and a lamborghini diablo. Its a long list that i can never ever possibly own lol even if i won the lottery.

Im interested to hear what you guy's have both owned and dream/plan to own in the future.

Cheers in advance Aaron.

Wish i could rival that list!!!

I had a 950cc Ford Fiesta (blew up), 1300cc Fiesta (blew up), 1300cc Opel Kadett with racing carbs - nice car, good run around and enough "poke" to scare a few Hot Hatches, F1 Audi Coupe (best car ever) -2200cc 5-cylinder beast that scared a couple of Porsches of the lights! Crashed that one! VW Golf 1300cc, total wreck, no brakes and leaked every fluid known to man everywhere it went. Honda CRX 1500cc - another great car, very good economy but variable valve timing so when you floored it the speedo went up almost as fast as the rev counter! Ford Orion 1500cc diesel (my first "sensible family car". 1800cc Ford Sierra Sapphire. Renault Scenic 1600cc and then my current car Renault Scenic 1600cc vvti auto (first ever auto but cant drive manual anymore as my left leg goes dead when i sit)

From 17 to 24 i was also doing over 90k miles in company vehicles and wrote off seven cars in the first 5 years of my driving career, couple my fault but most were down to others stupidity. Scariest one was 90mph in thrid lane of motorway and drivers side front tire blew out - had wife to be in the car with me and that was what made it scary, all my other crashes had just been me. Luckily i was pretty strong back then and managed to keep the car out of the barriers and/or other cars by pure determination not to let the bloody thing spin.

1979 Lincoln Mark V Continental. Two 12" alpine subs off a 1,000 Watt amp. Someday hydraulics, too, just to be stupid and get a laugh.

for it being 3 years older then me, the brakes getting crappy were really the only issue it had and i got them fixed. when i first got the century it had a little tear in the headliner and it sagged a bit. when my dog was a puppy i used to drive her around in the back seat and i looked in my rear view one day and saw her biting the strip of headliner and i just heard *RIIIIIP* lol
between her and my friends red nose pulling on it i ended up just pulling the entire head liner out.

it always ran really nicely though :)
except it liked to have a high idle sometimes O.o but i believe that's fixed now also. once i get a new job i'll get insured and start driving again. right now it's just sitting at my dads house collecting dust.

One thing I am looking into is a way to sticky things in a certain order rather than chronological (by date)

Don't worry about it, now you know.

Very nice lincoln Randy! Love that mustang, wish they were cheaper over here but still fetch an incredible price compared to what you guy's pay for them!

I am getting my GMC back on monday after getting some final touches done to it, just to be sure its ready to be a daily driver. I will grab some pics on monday when i pick the car back up, i cant wait to drive this beast every day even though the fuel costs will kill me haha.

It's a '79 Continental Town Car Has the 400 not the 460. Good thing too I put 8 gallons of gas in it yesterday and it cost me $32 :Wow: Might be time to let her go I'm thinking.

Lol. You probablly get better mileage than me. The only time I would drive mine is going out to a movie or dinner. 4 bucks a gallon at 8 mpg. pffft.

I ended up getting this beast instead of the dodge. It has a 502 ram jet big block, air bags, custom recaro interior, custom stereo, house of kolor paint and many more. I picked this up for basically nothing and got given nearly 200k worth of receipts. The beast has nearly 650hp at the rear wheels and will soon have 1200hp at the rear once the 8/71 blower goes on as a stroker kit.

Well, here's mine. Not a show car by any means, but mechanically sound, and I love it!

Are you kidding, between the sweet blue and the portholes, that ride is killer!
