Bathing in the water is also a sign of low humidity. It might be a bit dry for him.
It gets so dry in Colorado that this last winter my oldest ball, also named Lucky BTW, would sit in his water also. I checked him for mites and he didn't have any.

What's that supposed to mean???? OMG
please be civil, I am no expert on Royals or any snake for that matter. I do think you should bring your new addition to a vet, just for a little check up ? as you would if you rescued a dog or a horse right?
Cowgirl_1970

No vet here that does snakes, he's fine.....I've checked him out....if he don't eat for me in the next couple days then I may travel....all's good, thanks....

I was told to try a small bi-colored mouse, but WAIT, gotta ask Mykee first, lol

what's funny about that..
some BP will only take white mice, some will only take dark coloured mice, some won't take mice at all..
Royal Pythons can sometimes be finicky eaters.
We got very luck, ours is a garbage can, he sucks down anything with fur.
I was told to try a small bi-colored mouse, but WAIT, gotta ask Mykee first, lol
What:confused: A small Bi colored mouse  I honestly dont understand that could you explain, who gave you that info

I have heard too many stories of people who assume Jerboas and Gerbils are the same thing, and feed their BP gerbils...
The Jerboa is found in the pythons natural habitat, gerbils are not..

He does not look like snake food!! chinchilla x rabbit x mouse?
lol definitely haven't seen one of those guys before

Wayne: Ohmygosh!!! that little rodent is soooo darn cute! I want one now! :P
Cowgirl: Nobody here is trying to be mean. everybody here is trying to help you. They just want the best for your snake. People are trying their best but every time they say something you get very defensive. They aren't criticizing you, they're just pointing out incorrect information that you read (which is no fault of your own because there is plenty of wrong information everywhere from the web to books) and they are trying to correct it for you so that you have an easier go of these. They've mentioned that it's more difficult to take care of rescues because they could potentially have health issues (even ones that are not visible, such as parasites) and since this is the first snake that you have owned they're trying to make it as successful as possible. They have the best intentions when they post and try to help you. Try to imagine it from their perspective though, they're offering advice and you're getting very defensive and angry and you're arguing their points when they have had many, many, many years of hands on experience, aside from just research. Please think about it.

Its over folks.. someone needs a break.
If anyone thinks I overreacted with the ban, feel free to PM me.
In the last hour I have read some disturbing comments made, and we all know what **** means.. so I did what I had to

Wayne... to be honest I think she was only on here at this point to argue and not except any information which may or may not have been given to her in the future... that also being said with the way she was acting i figured she was either going to get banned or just not come back to the site...
Either way I am with you on your decision and I know this forum will be the friendly place it was only hours ago :)

Jen, you were not here yet when we had this gal who insisted on caging her BP outside to "soak up some sun"
in the end, I sent her packing too.. she went as far as joining other forums to slander this one..

The analogy stems from taking something small (one off colour post) and blowing it up into something substantially larger.(the whole forum hates me)

Maybe if she came back, apologized, and reposted maturely, a ban lift would be worth it. But I doubt that would happen. ;/ I just feel a bit bad for lucky, that their new owner is so stuborn as to not take advice from all the people here. I got set straight on a few things when I first joined. Not because I was intentionally doing anything wrong, but because I read, or was told, bad information and believed it. After compairing many different sources, most of which came from this forum, I was able to set myself straight. Now, instead of going to google to look something up, I'll just search the threads. :P I never rememeber getting overly defensive. ;/ Been a dramaic day here~

Some people will always take advice as criticism no matter how nicely it is put across, these are the people you leave in your past and move on.

This is true... however as someone who aspires to be a future police officer I really don't believe people such as this should be in that field of work... you can't be defensive at all times while working you need to let things roll off your shoulder or else you will end up doing something you will regret...
just my two cents..

I have to agree, armed bipolars are scary.

Lol @ armed bipolars. Ain't that the truth. I can just see what's going on in the field someone is getting a ticket because someone let themselves get mad about what someone said in a post on a forum.

My bp always soaks when she goes into shed....
sorry Guys, just want to get this question out since it is a little bit related. my BP soaks for 1.5 days when she is in shed is this normal or do i have to check for mites?
also, any tips on checking for mites it is so difficult to see them with all the dark patterns in my BP.

if your python is pretty much only soaking pre-shed, there shouldn't be an issue. a good way to see if your snake has mites is to use paper towel as a substrate for a while. it's great for seeing tiny black moving specks.
and look down the whole bottom along the ventral scales, mites love to go there.
good! thanks! i have been using news papers for a while now since it really is efficient....

Another way fo checking for mites is to take a damp white flannel or some kitchen paper and rub the snake down - you will see the mites clearly against the white background.
I agree with the above tho - if he is only soaking pre shed then you have no worries - we have a humid hide in with our snakes and they tend to use that pre shed rather than the water bowl - it just a hide filled with damp sphagnum moss.
