ferrets are cool pets. but messy little things lol, we let are ferret run the house free, and we put a couple litter boxxes spread around and leave his multi 3 lvl cage open. i found it really made him very docile running around playing with the 3 little dogs all day. cant wait to see pics of your ferret. is it male or female? do you have a name picked out yet?

Yea... this smell is going to take some getting use to I am pretty sure if i just wash the bedding frequently it will cut down on it a lot I think I am going to switch it out about 3 times a week...

Ferrets are far to active for my lifestyle. Besides I already have two 75 pound dogs and a cat that roam free...not to mention my 2 rats that are almost always out...and my reps. Full full house.

Ahh fair enough :) But at least this ferret should keep me for over spending on pets for a while :P

Oh trust me that ferret will keep you from over spending on pets and instead possibly have you replacing pillows, blankets, remotes, phones, ect ect. They love to hoard things and tear things apart. At least the two my husband used to own were notorious for it.

lol I cant keep her out of the cage all the time because it is a communal house so she is going to have regular supervised playtime daily

I can't get a ferret because my wife is allergic to them too. And no matter what they say, they always stick.

Adorable pictures~ You should post some more asap. ;p
They're very cute little things, but I agree with some other posters, I personally can't get around the smell factor. ;/ We have ferrets come into the clinic I work at sometimes, and I don't know if it's just because they're nervous there, but the smell always sticks around longer than they do. ;/

I have always had ferrets, at least 2 of them. A few tips, If you clean there litter box daily or every other day and give them a bath once a month along with feeding them quality food or a raw diet they almost don't smell at all. I have my 2 ferrets in my living room and people are shocked when they come over to my house and see that It doesn't smell at all. People have no clue that I have them at all until they hear them making noise. When you get a ferret in the US they are suppose to take out the scent glads. The only way it should be a smelly ferret is if you manage to get one that didn't have that done. If you have that done and your ferret still smells look at the quality of the food you give it along with how clean you keep it and the cage its in.

I personally dont mind. That being said I don't think I will be handling her just before I am ready to go out for the day :)

ferrets are awsome cute lil things, I've seen the cleanest of ferrets still have a slight odour, but nothing major at all and watch the buttons on your remotes.

It's cute my friend's ferret likes to stuff his head in shoes and than he'll run around for a few minutes with it on his head lol get it off and do it again haha cute lil guys:)

To assist in Litter box training when they poop in there cage place them right into the litter box also if you are not there when they poop simply place the poop in the litter box then show them. Ferrets are VERY smart and as long as you keep them happy they will do as you ask fairly fast.
Also switch the food over VERY slow other wise you will have a ferret with the runs. Ferrets tend to eat and poop every 2 hours so If keep food in the cage at all times ( like you should) then I would add just a little new food a few times a week to what they are eating now until you are at just the good new food. Make sure your new food has a main ingredients of chicken. It is the best for them and keeps them smelling the best also. If you notice that there is fish in the food I would look for another food. The fish is going to add a lot of smell to there litter box and the ferret itself.
If you have anyother questions I can help with feel free to ask away.

I use Marshall Select Chicken Formula Premium Ferret Diet its about $18 for a 4 lb bag but I also add rabbit meat and some other raw food to their diet. ( sorry it took so long to respond!)
