Hey guys,
So I have ordered my new cage for Static, my 9month old male JCP.
He is still really small, only just over 2' long, but I have his new tank coming next week for when he is an adult.
The PVC cage will measure 3' long x 2' H x 2' deep.
I spoke to a sales rep at a popular snake shop and was told that 2' H was too high to use a boaphile radiant heat panel (which was what I was planning to use)
So now I am wondering what you guys would suggest to heat something that size?
This tank is basically going to look exactly like a boaphile tank, same doors and vents etc.
Suggestions please?
Thanks!

That makes no sense to me, since the snake usually curls up directly over the heat source, why should ceiling height be relevant?

Great question.
Sadly the sales rep was of very little help. :(
Which is really why I am asking you guys and girls :)

i house all my adult carpets in 4x2x2ft vivariums i use 100 watt ceramic bulbs guarded and on thermostats
they will heat your tank no problem
as long as your jungles eating regular and not a nervous feeder they do just fine going into adult tanks from a hatchling age.just make sure theres plenty branches, fake plants and a couple of hides to make them feel secure
cheers shaun

Hey thanks!
So, how do you heat with those ceramic bulbs? so you mount a socket inside the cage and just sort of silicone a drilled hole for the plug?
Also, does anyone have any experience using radiant heat panels such as these?
Plastic Reptile Cages, Tanks and Racks. Snake, arboreal, lizard and turtle light weight custom flexwatt heated enclosures. (http://www.boaphileplastics.com/radiant.html)
Thanks for the info.!

We also have ceramics, the bulb is in the tank, the wire goes through the air vent and is plugged into the thermostat outside of the tank, always ensure a thermostat is used when using ceramics.

there is the website
Pro-Products | Heating Solutions (http://www.pro-products.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=55&Itemid=59)
on the bottom of the page you will see what info they need and you just email that to them and they will get back to you on what size and watts you need.

I use one of these to house my boa....100W I believe on a thermostat for a 6Lx3Wx2H malamine enclosure and it works very well.

I use ceramics as well. When I build a new cage, I drill a 4" hole fore the fixture, and I mount an electrical box outside the cage for wiring purposes in case I want to change anything up quick and easy like. Also, I have a wire cage around the fixture to prevent burns.
Flexxwatt...lol it only cost $3.00!! and it works great!!
^^ I'm not sure that flexwatt will provide the necessary heat through the PVC cage. It might provide a nice basking spot, but I doubt it will get ambient air temp where it needs to be. PVC is an insulator, so it will likely minimize heat flow. And I'm assuming the thickness of the PVC cage will also hinder heat flow. I may be wrong though, as I'm using an engineer's perspective and not first hand experience.

Yeah, I would tend to agree.
Flex watt seems like a great idea for a terrestrial snake, not an arboreal.
Is it true that the ceramic emitters are wickedly hot, and you need a guard in front or you can burn your pet?
Also aren't they hard on humidity?
So far I am leaning towards this -
Reptile Basics 80 Watt Radiant Heat Panel - Reptile Basics Inc (http://www.reptilebasics.com/80-watt-radiant-heat-panel)
With a nice stat to go with it.
My JCP enjoys climbing and spends most of his time off the ground.

They can get up to 400f or more so yes a guard is a must, we have had no problems with humidity and use ceramices for all our legless friends.

all my adult cages are pvc : ) all I use is flexxwatt ambient temp is at 80 with a basking spot of 90. With the capablitiy to pump it up when gravid!! its perfection Im telling ya lol
