I find that true of all the "romance languages" Italian is a favourite.

Once you consider that even English has Latin roots, the other languages become a little easier. (The other languages with Latin origins that is..)
However, writing text is one thing, correct pronunciation while speaking it is completely different.
Even English has many variations on how a word is pronounced when spoken.

Actually, i've come to realize that English is almost a 50/50 blend between Germanic and Latin roots...I took 3 years of German in high school, and the number of cognates (words that sound the same across languages) was astounding for English to be purely latin-based. So knowing your English could help with Germanic languages as well :)
And Italian all the way...such a gorgeous spoken tongue.

When I went to Brasil, I was forced to learn a fair bit of Portuguese, only 3 people around me spoke fluid English.
Tudo Bem?

I took 5 years of Spanish starting in middle school and all throughout high school. I used to consider myself fluent, but sadly I've forgotten a lot after not using it for 2 years.
