my room gets down to 68 at night.i m using 75 watt Night Glo by exo terra on my GTP..it says on package..Simulates natural moonlight, perfect for nocturnal veiwing. will it disturb the day and night cycle? it is a light bulb with bluelish color ..almost look like black light.or should i use infrared light which is Heat Glo Infrared 75W by exo terra ?it produce red infrared light but it brights up my whole room in red..i m sacared lol. i ve heard they cant see red infared light..but not sure if they can see the moonlight i m using...which should i use??
try switching to a CHE or even an UTH ?

yea i was thinking of getting a uth's instead of the bulbs for both my snakes.
going to have to put my 4x2x2 wooden viv on pegs and hope it doesn't warp or die of heat transfer.
i had them for a bit until my basement turned into a reptile room i switched over to a space heater

so my options are..
1. just use night glo with bluelish color ..provide heat and i can see him like under natural moonlight. but in wild moonlight shines on forest bedding too..i dont see y it would disturb him..?
2. lights out where no heat will provided and cant see anything..
3. heat glo..provided heat and lights that wont interfere him but me..bright up my whole room...
4. Ceramic..provide heat but cant see him...add night glo would be way too hot...
dont really want to use uth...unless i mount on back wall....
i dont know what to choose...if they could make one light wont disturb me and pets that would be great... and still provide heat...:nerd: haha
so you are going to need some sort of light to view i would go with the night glow my roomate has one they are not that bright

Option 5
Ceramic heat emitter + low voltage aqurium LEDs
Heat + low light without adding extra heat source

Use a che and have a red light you can turn on and off for nite time veiwing.

hey! thats a good idea!! but it sounds like i can just use the night glo..since they produce same color compare to bluelish moonlight to LEDs..

Id stick with the bulbs if your temps drop at night.. I had the same problem using a uth only and my brb got lethargic from it.. However other people use them well.. It all depends on individual circumstances xx

Petsmart probably has them and they are kinda pricey but che last a very long time like five yrs so its worth it in the long run.

If you use CHE then you MUST have a thermostat, i have a laser thermometer and one day just for fun when setting up a viv i ran the che for five minutes with out the thermostat and checked the bulb temp, it was over 400f!!! This is why CHE'sMUST be GUARDED and THERMOSTATTED at all times.
The big advantage of them once they are set up and thermostatted is that you can run them 24/7, all seven of my snakes have them on constantly.

i agree
i would use non light emmiting ceramic bulbs 24/7 and use the light coming in your room window as its natural light cycle
imo a snake needs darkness

So I went to local petsmart to ask them about the lights .. The lady was like.. We use the red infarared light.. We use re infarared light.. That's what we use.. That's what our animals have on them . And I was like .. I don't care what u use in your store u didn't answer my question.. So I left.. And she was the pet care manager.. Omg
Personally, I use natural light for my snakes. Both tanks are on my dresser, and they face the window so they get some really good natural light. In the evening I have a lamp next to the dresser with a reading lamp on it. I usually point it towards the tanks from the side. Other then that, they have their heart pads. And they seem to do fine.
