View Full Version : my poor baby
we have had my female ball python for about 2 weeks. just found out that she is actually 9 months instead of 9 weeks like the guy told me she was. but i found tick on her tonight quite a few actually. poor thing she let me get them off even tho i know some of them really hurt cause they left holes in her body. but afterwards she cuddled with me. so i guess she still loves me. lol
maybe a vet check is in order?
yea i think so to.. so also hasnt ate since she got here.. i had her in a glass viv but i moved her to a drawer viv which she seems happier.. but im even more worried now bc of the ticks.
as long as shes safe and happy right? better make that appt. then.

Ask the vet for a tube of silvadine ssd. apply to the effected areas.
Silvadine is prescription only, and any competent vet will know exactly what you are asking for and why.
That stuff is the best antibiotic creme available. Keep the leftover, it's handy to have.
I have used it on my snakes with great success.
k i will. she is also getting ready to shed. her belly is turning pink. but no blue eyes yet

your better letting snakes settle in feel secure and establish a regular eating pattern before you handle them
i would leave the snake in a quiet spot and only go near it to change its water once every 5 to 7 days
after 2 weeks like that try offering food if it don't feed then try again a week later
have you any pictures of the holes left after you took the bugs out the snake mate ?
a trip to the vets for a check up will give you peace of mind regarding your snakes health
its always best to get snakes feeding for 4 or 5 feeds in a row before handling
snakes can go off their food for a long time with no ill effect so don't worry too much

Pity I wanted to see what these parasites that get on snakes looked like. Was hoping for a pic...oh well. At least your snake is hopefully parasite free!

Good to know! thanks
The ticks are really small an they look like her scales. So they are really hard to see. An we don't really handle her that much.

nah, you can't really misconstrue a mite with a tick, regardless of if it is small. even a tiny tick is bigger then a mite. i've seen both.
Ok well she had her vet visit today an she is actually a he lol... but he has a ri an he has lost a lot of wait but he doesn't look it yet if he doesn't eat in the next 3 weeks the vet is going to assist feed him which I know he wil hate cause he was going nuts when the vet opened his mouth but it has to be done he 682 grams the first day we got him now he is 654. I have to give him a shot ever 3 days 7 times which is gonna be hard cause his skin is extra tuff for some reason.

eesh, i hope he gets better soon.
Thanks. I hope so to. I hate that he is sick an that I didn't catch it sooner. I jus thought he wasn't eating because he still trying to adapt to his new home.
Also part of his treatment I have to put in a bath of warm water an sit for a couple of mins then pat his back.. I just did it an he loved it he swimming around by the time I was done he was so relaxed.
well at least he is now in good care
