Thank god for Texas LOL I also live in Texas and it is a wonderful thing. As for Fl. I think they are trying to ban exotics that are getting loose and then overtaking the natural animals...or something like that.
nothing has been brought up in texas yet, they did pass something for florida for 9 large constrictor species.

well i really thought something came up already cause Petco and Petsmart told me they can no longer carry pythons, boas, kings, milks, greentreefrogs..then i asked them what r u gonna do with the animals ya have? they were like...not sure..lol are we still allow to purchase them??
Look up Bill HR 669 or go to USARK, they have been instrumental in singlehandedly stopping and ending any blanket anti-reptile legislation (because the entire American reptile owning population is so complacent and pathetic).

well you just insulted everyone here lol I have personally donated to usark, become a member and volunteer with them often, collecting letters, passing out flyers ect trying to get the word out there about this
hr 669 is a very old bill, the first one. They will keep rewritting it though and trying to pass some kind of order. Although all scientific evidence has been proven false and they no longer have much to stand on.
this is the newest bill
H.R. 511: To amend title 18, United States Code, to prohibit the importation of various injurious species... (GovTrack.us) (http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h112-511)

I've been reading about these bills and scientific studies in FL and it makes me sick on so many levels. Not sure if it is true or not but I read that they determined a large chunk of wild exotic snakes was NOT from pet owners but from labs! The whole thing is ridiculous. Why can't people be more responsible. If you aren't going to care for a pet rehome it, not dump it in the backyard. If you have a lab and tons of snakes get lose, hire some people to hunt them down! Responsibility is apparently not a common quality any more.
It's just like the pit-bull bans or anything else. Until idiots stop buying pets they are clueless about these bills will be around :(
It is just like the pit bull bans, they have been trying to ban them forever now. But they cant its ridiculous!! but there are more dog lovers, even the people who don't own dogs will vote for yes on dogs. Comparative ALOT of people hate snakes, so it will be a hard fight for us everytime this comes up, and so far since 09 its been up over and over again. Hopefully we can keep squashing it!!

Congratulations, and YOU personally are to be commended on that. You are certainly doing your part. Unfortunately, you are in the very small minority. In USARKs latest public call for help (last April-July I believe) for to call and write letters, I believe USARK said they received less than 2000 letters. Keepers were allowed to send as many letters as they wanted.
pathetic turn out in my opinion, and everyone so far except for you should be hanging thier heads in shame for being so apathetic and complacent.
"we arent all super serious breeders"
You personify the attitude of most reptile keepers in the US. Why bother if you're not a "big time breeder" huh?
Jendee; help this lost, aimless soul.

no its not that. but if your not big time these things are easy to not notice. these arent things i see on the news.
That, and you're Canadian, so there is nothing you can do to help change American law.
Get involved in your local community bylaws and make change.
But do so intelligently;
There is nothing worse for this community in general than some unintelligent, greasy snake keeper standing up in front of council and speaking about bylaw reform.

Do you see a Canadian flag on my country? VANCOUVER WASHINGTON not BC and not DC. Vancouver WA, why do people always just see Vancouver and assume Canada ive never even been to Canada.
and i might do that in my town because we have no herp clubs or committees so maybe not what your talkin about but i might go down to the college and see if i cant start a club, then we can go from there.
I'm not a big time breeder either, but the majority of reptile keeper are the person with one ball python or one leopard gecko, because of this these people don't get reached with this kind of info. (Although it is on animal planet. And at every reptile show in the U.S) If they ever do pass this bill anybody with a python, boa will be affected, depending on what the bill actually states. You may have to get rid off, license your animal. You may not every be able to cross state lines with your animal, ship your animal, breed your animal or sell your animal. I'm pretty sure the herp world will turn into a big underground thing and that would suck!! soooo everyone (pet owners included) if your in the U.S get to crackin and protect our rights as reptile keepers!!! :)

That would be awesome!! at a college especially!! My favorite thing is to pass out bumper sticks from usark, while informing people whats going on. Then pretty soon you will have a band wagon of people wanting to help!!

No problem, the other stuff is now located in the "Let's talk I'm bored" thread.
This ban will be a "hot topic" on almost all herp forums until something changes, it already has been a big topic for a couple years now already.
So rather than have this one mired in off topic stuff, I moved it to the proper thread.
