hi all, i need help fast, every time i get my large male corn out he wheezes instead of hisses and i can feel the breathe of the wheeze coming from him, he is also completely refusing to eat, ive done what im capable of and he still doesnt wanna eat, i think that it could be because hes just a horny git but could there be something else wrong with him and if so whats the best way to sort it out.
thanks all

URI ? Most likely bacteria is the culprit. If the humidity in your cage is too high, that's a double blow as it's harder for a snake with a URI to breath humid air, and it also is more of a breeding ground for bacteria. Make sure you disinfect the cage regularly when you change substrate etc - what kind of substrate are you using? Raise your temps and decrease your humidity, if it worsens contact the vet

i use beech chips for a substrate and the humidity is the same as it is in the room, i dont spray his tank at all, i disinfect his tank every 3 to 4 weeks but he came this way unfortunatley, theres a shop brought branch and cork bark hide in the tank aswell which is spot cleaned when needed but checked everyday

so you are saying that you may have purchased the snake with an URI? is this the first time you noticed "wheezing" how long have you had the snkae

yh its a very big possiblity and no i just thought that he wheezing was stress related to begin with and ive had him for just over a month now

hot end temp is 28 - 30, cool end 19 - 21 celcius, a large glass tank (fish tank), thin layer (about 1cm) of beech chips, extra large water bowl cleaned every other day and a very thick log, heres a picture:

I'm confused, are you still running the boa's heatmat off the same thermostat as you said this on another forum? If so you have your boa at the wrong temps??

Which end is the warm end? You have a large hide at one end but very thick substrate so I'm guessing that's the col end, so where is the warm end hide??

You need to get him to a vet asap if your as worried about him as you say.

i don't know what you're talking about with the other thread and all that. but it's not even a boa, it's a corn snake.

i just read you have the one store bought hide. you should have one on the hot side and one on the cold side also. cardboard boxes or simple things make great hides. i've had my ball python for almost 3 months and he was VERY panicky when i first got him and breathed hard and wheezed. he is much better now but still stresses out every now and then.

and in that picture i don't see a hide at either end, are there any??
hides are very necesary for a snake to feel safe.

The snake is sitting on the hide. 10 bucks says that rock is hollow.

I know thats a corn snake. He also has a boa and for a few days he was running both the boa and the corns heatmats off the same stat! That's why I was asking how that is possible when both require different warm end temps.

the boa was on the same stat which was on an extension lead run into the next room, the snake arrived with me between 8 and 9 at night and the stat came at 9:30 the following morning, the warm spot was between 29c - 31c, and for 1 night that temp is perfectly fine as i have researched, as long as its not permanently set at that temp

Let us know how you get on at the vets.

Are you using the local one by the shops or a rep vet?

ilovemypets1988

Try phoning Orpington Pets at Home.
They have a vet there that deals with reptiles apparently.
As it's listed as urgent you'll get seen quicker, they also don't normally charge for the first visit.

Google is your friend.

Any news? How is he?

The OP did say he has a serious problem and you needed help fast so just wondering if you got him to a vet?

Hope he's ok!

How strange, you seem to be visiting this site everyday but have not updated this thread.

I'm guessing he hasn't seen a vet yet??

You have been online, not sure why you would say you haven't!

Anyway glad to hear he is gonna be ok. What meds was he given? Does he have to go back for a check up?

Just as a thought, they may leave themselves signed in with compute on, giving the appearance of being online. I've been "online" 24 hours a day since Late January in a similar manner.

Glad to hear he's doing better! Post more pics when he's back up to snuff!! :)
