I got a call from a lady down my street saying there was something dead in her driveway. So I walked down to her house only to find a dead hawk!! I picked it up and brought it home to take some pictures. I looked all over the body and it didn't look or feel like there were any external injuries. So I have no idea how it died. Must of had a sickness or something. It's so cool to have been so close to a hawk. They really are so beautiful! It was also very sad. Well here are some of the pictures I took of the hawk. :Wow:

You need to save the head to keep the skull! I did the same for a coyote and fox...it is just awesome. And if you can/do decide to keep it I can help you with the way I learned without much mess or fuss.

I was going to see if my old science teacher would want it. She is crazy about stuff like this. But if she doesn't want it I might want the head! lol

Glad to see you wore gloves when handling this dead majestic bird! Why did your neighbor call you, if I may ask??

The reason my neighbor called me is because she knows I am into stuff like this. It was amazing!

Beautiful creature, shame its life is gone. :(

It is possible it flew into a) a power/utility overhead line or b) a window, we have seen a Peregrine hit a window and die through a snapped vertebrae and have no external visible injuries whatsoever. The shockwave just rattles through the spinal column and if there is a weakness it can snap it.

Rob, there are no less than three of those that can commonly be seen circling or perching looking out over my meadow.

I see at least three Hawks a week around here. Month ago i saw a Eagle flying around over my neighborhood. Which is strange, because you normally do see Eagles this far from a major water source. There are stripe mine lakes around my town. Just nothing real big like you normally find them around.

Cool picks Hillary.

One of the coolest things i ever seen was when i was driving down a back road pass a lake and saw a Hawk swoop down a pick up a snake right out of the water. I felt bad for the snake, but that's part of the circle of life.

i used to watch a pair of red tail hawks (i think its what my dad called them and i was 8) pick snakes, rabbits, and any other field inhabitants all the time.

We are lucky where we live as we are in the border between the city and open countryside, loads of rabbits, mice and other small mammals around so we get Peregrines, Sparrow Hawks, Kites and all sorts of Owls around our skies regularly.

my guess is that it probably ate a mouse or rat that had eaten some poison

We have hawks, Eagles and Owls all over the city of Edmonton. In the 5 years I have lived here I have seen a bird of pray take prey half a dozen times or so. They prey mostly on prairie dogs and jack rabbits that are all over the city. I do feel sorry for the people who have mysteriously missing pets though.

I ran into a lady while walking my dog last summer, (Ran into....came across sounds better I guess) Who was scanning the sky as she walked her small fluffy animal. She told me that the previous week a hawk had tried to grab her "dog" She said she wouldn't let the dog off the leash anymore. I couldn't help but laugh at the image in my head. One of the coolest things I was able to see was a large bald eagle perched on a soccer goal. I was about 10 feet from him when he took off, and I was amazed at his wing span, and the noise they created.

We have a pair of red tail hawks that have a cam on them every year.
They have 2-3 chicks a year and we watch them grow up and go out on their own each season, so cool.
It's really nice to watch now that they put an HD camera in :)

They have four eggs in their nest as of the 21st, going to be interesting to see if all four make it, that would be a first for these two hawks
