my gtp has not shed since i got him, i've only had him for about three weeks. he's been eating and acting normally. i'm just not sure what to expect as far as frequency of sheds go for a neonate. any advice is appreciated.

Not too sure about GTP's, but my KSB did not shed in the first month I had her either. When it's time to grow it should shed!

I know my corn snakes I used to own never had a set schedule shed.

Every 6 wks is about average, it really depends on how much your feeding. The more you feed the more they shed.

like Jen said about every 6 weeks, GTP grow a little slow so they dont shed like a boa will.

My gtp sheds approx 6-8 weeks, he gets a medium rat every 14 days. I was advised by the breeder to feed large prey less often with gtps as they arent all that active and prone to fat. My guy is about thrre feet at a year old and eating the same size as my jcp who is a good six to eight months older a good foot longer.

do you remember how big he was at around 3 - 4 months or possibly the prey size? i get the feeling i'm doing good on shedding, or not for that matter lol but it's always nice to have a comparison to an older healthier snake.

If you look at the Profile : Hogan thread there are some pics from his early months then. I believe he was about three months or so when we got him and he was taking medium to large mice then with no problem. The size of prey they can eat is phenomenal.

ah i did look at that earlier. although i can't tell for sure he looks about the same size as hank, so i guess my next question would be should i move him up slowly to give him time to adjust or just go w. the big one right away?

We went from the mice to a similar size rat with the thought that he may not be easy to switch, he pounded it immediately! We gradually worked him up to the medium rat, when he eats it is funny watching him trying to get up onto his perch again as he is so fat he can barelt move. Once he is in the proper viv i will try to get a sequence of shots of him feeding.

gradually it is then! hank always seems to be able to move around fine even right after he's got it down. can't wait to see the images!
