we (my roommate and i) were fixing up hank's tank w. some new foliage and substrate. i thought it would be best to move him out so that travis could really go to town...he seemed fine (picture proof below) and then all of the sudden BAM he tagged my index finger. it didn't hurt but of course it started bleeding, i can't wait to go to my drawing class and play w. charcoal w. these little holes in my finger haha.

Yeah they are incredible in that phase when you see them in real life. It looks as if the transformation into green is starting to happen?

oh no, he's only about four months old. the green you're seeing is probably a reflection from something near by lol. here's another image of him from today

Oh he is just a wee little baby then, i have heard of the colour change starting at 4-6months before though. I would really love to get a blue gtp but i just cant justify it. You dont want to send him over to Australia by any chance? LOL.

ye, i've got a feeling it's coming soon though haha. i think you should find a way to justify getting a gtp, they're so beautiful and challenging! i feel like shipping my little hank to australia would be counterproductive seeing as how you could just go up north and find some wild beauties haha

Haha was only joking about sending him lol i could never do that to you. I wish it was legal to take snakes from the wild here. You can only do that under a permit which is extremely hard to get.
For a pure Aussie native GTP you are still looking at anywhere between 800-2000 a hatchy depending on quality and blood lines. For the illegal PNG GTP you can get them for 500-1800 for hatchies. These prices were a hell of a lot higher 5-6 years ago but due to large breeding programs prices have come down and will continue to do over the next few seasons.

I have often thought about getting a GTP but i always end up getting something else instead haha. Maybe if a build the tank ( always wanted to make a wall mounted tank for these guy's ) and have it set up. It might make me get one this season lol. They are one of the most beautiful pythons to look at!

oh my, that's crazy! but it also makes sense...so it's give and take lol.

you should definitely do the set-up, it sounds like it would be a real eye pleaser. and then you'd have to get one to not let a pretty tank go to waste.

what's your collection consist of now?

I keep olive pythons and aussie scrub pythons. The rest are hot's, i have found i have more of an addiction to them for some reason.

You are from Australia percy39 your back yard or perhaps closest forested area is what we try and create in our living rooms/reptile rooms. I think it is fair to say why buy anything when you can catch and release all day if you so choose to. lol You have probably been chasing your scaly friends for as long as I have been catching and releasing North American leopard frogs and garter snakes. LOL

We get venomous species only down where i live mate. I find eastern browns, copperheads, tigers and red belly blacks quite frequently down here. I am in the process of upgrading my permit to do more relocation work where i am as a bit of fun. That way i can catch some of the best hot's the worldhas to offer. I work in many areas all over Australia which allows me to get to untouched areas and look at some snakes in the wild that many others never get the chance to see. I for one definetely love these opportunities to go herping in the middle of the desserts.

that's awesome! i can't even imagine having opportunities like that, having beautiful and dangerous snakes right in my back yard!!

what is the process for getting a permit like that?

I dont want to really keep derailing this thread, but i have done a pretty good job of it so far!

There is no real check system but i will re do my venomous handling course ( i hope i pass lol ) and then apply for the permit upgrade. The problem is i would love to do it for some of the mines i work in as the catchers there are pretty terrible to say the least ( from talking they dont understand much of the concept behind getting the snake in the bag lol ). I would like to get a national permit but unfortunetely i can only get a state permit which is a pain. As i work on some very sacred aboriginal land which would give me access to some snakes people will look at through very few pictures, not that i would be legally aloud to touch these animals :crazy2:

oh i hope you pass too haha, it doesn't sound like too hard of a process just a tedious one. i can't wait to see the pictures you get!

I hope i pass as well as i have been keeping most of these species for a fair while now lol. If i dont there is something very wrong! The season has not got too long left and we have had a lot of rain lately so i will try and get out to my mates property and photograph some red bellies for you guy's.
