This was one of my impulse buys, we were in the reptile shop when he was delivered and boiught him on the spot. A lot easier to look after than a lot of people told me he would be. Currently living in a faunarium inside his adult size viv but soon to be unleashed on the full size home. Difficult to get good pics as he is in a little box inside a big box so will update with more once he is out and about.
He is about a year old now, another baby that we took on after a couple of feeds. He feeds every time like he has never been fed - always interested in eating everything that goes into his box.
In the shop the day we got him

Better idea of his colouring then

He is now eating prey about 3 times his body size!! Here is eating a mouse about 2 times body size.

Loving that yellow~ He's going to change colors, though, later on, right? :c That's the thing I hate about GTP's... They have magnificent color phases, but they change. Wish they'd stay yellow or red.

He is almost green now, should get more vibrant tho - am hoping to get him out into his adult viv in the next month or so and will add pics of his current colour then for comparison.

It's weird, in real life i never noticed that he has a blue stripe from his nostril back through his eye and back past his skull yet the camera makes it quite clear!
And yes his colour has really popped - two sheds back he was bright yellow with a couple of small patches of green and now - WOW!
that could possibly be the most beautiful snake i've ever seen

He moved into his big boy house yesterday, gave up on the PVC idea nad went for a more natural look - may add some greenery at some point but letting him settle for now.

Cheers, am really glad that we went for natural rather than "perches" now, it really shows off their movement how it would be in the wild, with odd shapes and rough knobbly branches. Probably gonna go same with my jcp now.............
The setup looks great, and we probably all want pics of the jcp set up if it changes :)

Have bought the pieces for the jcp just need to get some energy to actually do it - havent really slept for three days so dont want to start handling an aggressive snake if i dont need to :)

The only thing scarier then the prospect of getting picked up and dangled over the ground without the ability to push off anything and fight back, is aquatic snakes who constrict you under water =/

He was the snake we worried most about getting because everyone was saying how easy it was to kill them but he really has been pretty easy to keep healthy.
Found out last week that two of his clutch mates also sold from our local reptile shop did die due to poor husbandry, there really is no excuse at all...... :(

Cool pics, is that old shed on it's head?
Lankyrob
04-27-11, 09:41 AM
Yeah, he has a small patch of it that we have tried to get off but he is VERY headshy. It is a flat patch, not going around the neck or anything and when we spray him a little comes of each time so rather than stress him out by holding him down and trying to remove it we are letting it come of a little at a time with the daily spray.

He had his 6th (i think, may only be 5th) handling session today at roughly 20months old - he is now approximately 3 and a half foot long and totally gorgeous!!

The blue lines go the length of his spine but unfortunately my crappy phone camera doesnt pic them up, next time i use the decent camera i will try to get better definition.

So far he has never missed a feed, once we left the prey in his enclosure overnight but all other times he launches across the viv.

He wasnt meant to be out really so just grabbed my phone and snapped quick. Trying to restrict handling to once every two months now that he is adult (if that!)
Nice pics all through this thread. Awesome looker. I like the close up head shots. Sooo ancient looking.

Latest pic of Hogan - before anyone says anything i want to make it very clear.
THIS IS NOT HIS USUAL HOME!!!!
He is in a faunarium that he stayed in whilst his viv was being repaired, not ideal but for the 48 hours whilst the viv was fixed and we waited for the sealant to dry it did the job.
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo200/Lankyrob1975/18092011061.jpg
He is also looking a little thin in the pic - we think that the issue with his viv was causing him stress and he hadnt eaten for 7 weeks before the viv was fixed. He has now been back in his proper home for a week and yesterday pounded a rat like he had never eaten before in his life!

Rob I have a question, I got my GTP in June and its still on pinkie mice, they may be a bit smaller than the width of her body what would be the next food size? would I do mouse fuzzies or switch her on to rat pups?

GTP's do not need rats. I would keep it on mice as GTP's can have issues with larger prey. I know they can eat 2-3 times the size of them self but they can get a prolapse from passing a large stool. I would go to something about 1.5 times the widest point of the GTP. I feed mine 1 large mouse every 7 days and once it is full grown I will go to every 10 days. If you do choose to feed it rats feed it less often as you dont want it getting fat.
Lankyrob
09-27-11, 04:02 PM
I feed rats that are twice his size every 14 days, i was feeding larger - up to 4x his size when he was younger due to some miscommunication but he seems perfectly happy with stuff twice his size.

yea s/he looks thin and has had 2 sheds with me so I'm wondering if its time to switch the food up I don't have a problem getting it mice fuzzies I just wasnt sure if it could take it, s/he's taking a pinky every 5-7 days no problem and craps like a machine so I may just feed until I finish the pinkies then move up to fuzzies

Rob, does he stay on that one perch like all the time?
I only ask because I like your natural look but a full bar across the enclosure allows him to roam freely at the same level. I would find a way to get additional natural perches at the same height so he can pick which side he likes.
Lankyrob
09-27-11, 06:04 PM
He moves around a fair bit, there is another perch at the same level on the opposite side of the viv so if he wants to get there he has to work for it a little rather than just shuffle across.
From my nights of staying up throughout the night i reckon he gets between 1-2 hours of movement in each 24 hour period during which he will cover most of his viv, he does mainly end up back where he started tho, if i had a normal sleep pattern i would swear blind that he doesnt move at all!!
Aaron_S

I guess I couldn't tell that the perch on the other side was the same height, me and my blindness :p
He's eating anyway so not a big deal. :)

I actually see what you mean from looking back through this thread, when we first set up the viv the perches were uneven (as on page one of this thread), since we have set up the viv after the repairs they are now even heights - when you asked the question i looked at the viv rather than looking back at the pictures!! :)

I cant believe it HE MOVED!!!!
Came downstairs this morning to see that Hogan has changed perch for the first time since he went into his new viv :)
We know he has been using the whole viv as we have found poop/urates in various places but as GTP owners will know they spend 99% of the daytime in one place, he has so far not moved away from his "wire" perch.
Sorry for the crappy pics
