View Full Version : Rough estimate of age?

Ok, Vermicelli just entered into his second shed cycle with me, he's about 17 inches long, unsure of weight.

This cycle is coming exactly 4 weeks and 2 days after the start of his last one. I was wondering if anyone has enough data on corns to be able to roughly guess his age; from my understanding sheds spread out more as they get older.

Thanks all!

You can always chop him in half and count the rings!! ;) :p

Mine were born in march last year and one is getting on for 30 inches whilst the other is about 24 inches. Unfortunately thay all grow at different rates so unless you can contact the breeder and they have specific records it is difficult to say. Alot of growth is down to what and how often they are fed.

My -guess- isn't 100% accurate, probably, since I don't personally own corns. If I were to guess I'd say maybe 8 - 12 months? As I said, it's probably wrong and I'm just guessing.

I'm glad Scott put the 'birth date' on the lid of my snake's little container he was sold in :D October 9th~

Edit: Ahhh that's very true Rob. Shame on me for forgetting eating and all that jazz. For the record, I was basing my guess on a corn fed the appropriate sizing and fed once every 6 - 7 days, and also with adequate husbandry.

Ahh yeah, see I picked him up from the local pet store, so they didn't have access to the DOB. Oh well, I guess. He's grown noticeably in just the month or so I've had him, so he's probably still pretty young. We'll see how it goes :)

Thanks again, Rob, Sapphyr :)

This never works they move around to much to get a good count. Then you have to glue or stitch them back together. Just a pain in the butt. lol:p

Probably not far off though, feeding is a big thing though, i have an 9 month old ghost that is about 20 inches and 45g+, hes a monster feeder though, i have a butter motley that is the same age, give or take, and he is about 15 inches and prob 20g, he was a problem to get started properly, i also have anery motleys at the same age which are about the same length, but prob 15g or so, all eat at the same time, however, obv the ghost and the butter have larger food.

on the whole though, it is impossible to give an exact idea on age, feeding every 5 days as to 7 would have a big influence, whether it has been powerfed or not, size of food, etc etc, too many variables, however, as a guess, i would agree with Sapphyr completely.
