I noticed in one of the little baggies I'm thawing pinkies in, there's some red fluid stuff. Is this normal?? I thaw in the fridge until about 20 minutes before chow-time, and then I put it under hot water until consumption. Is this something to worry about?

Probably blood. My mice sometimes have some form of blood, as well, while thawing in their baggies.

Oh ok...I guess I'll just do a smell check to make sure, but good to know I'm not the only one who experiences this :)

"Brownish red discharge that comes from a rat's eyes and nose is called porphyrin and in small amounts it is normal. Rats naturally have red mucus, so sometimes when they wake up from a nap you will notice it around their eyes just as humans' eyes can get 'crusties'. A normal, healthy rat should not have very much porphyrin; usually it is a result of stress, bad bedding, or illness.
