View Full Version : Mealies, easy way to dig them out of the substrate?
I just purchased 5 dozen mealies and they are now sitting in my fridge in a mix of oat bran, rolled oats, shredded coconut, powdered milk and other grains. The substrate is about 2-3 inches deep, and I was wondering if there was an easy way of digging them out of the substrate. I was thinking of using a sieve or maybe a cat poop scooper.
Any ideas please? Thanks!
I just get them out by hand probley not the anser you wanted but that seems easyest to me
Unless you grind your substrate into a powder, no sifting methods will be effective, mealies will fall through along with the grains, etc. I just pick em out by hand (like krrc), and I'm sure that will probably be the general concensus......
krrc, Linds,
Thanks for the input, looks like I have to play "hunt for buried treasure" every couple days. On a side note, I just checked on the mealies in the fridge and they have completely stopped moving.. is that normal? I know that they become very lethargic in colder temps.
yep thats fine I prefer to keep mine at room temp b/c I only buy a 100 at a time and it lets them grow I think you need to take them out of the frige for like 4 hours every 3-4 days to let them eat? I might be wrong.
