Ok, so we have all seen dogs dreaming and twitching in their sleep as if they are running. Anyone know if snakes do this??

The reason i ask, my JCP is asleep on his favourite perch having eaten two days ago, he does this pretty much after every feed. But i have noticed for about six minutes or so that the last four inches of his tail, the prehensile gripping part, has been flicking around, shooting out straight and then curling back up or twitching like a worm. Comparing it to a dog dreaming is the best way i think, it is that sort of twitchy random movement. I have absolutely no reason to think that he might be ill, he has eaten two days ago, i have seen him drink And cruise around his viv earlier today as well.

Any thoughts? Do snakes dream??? :crazy2:

Not really sure, but I know that snakes don't really sleep the same way as mammals do.

Pass a shadow over the snake, and you will see what I mean.

Their survival in the wild mandates that they are at least partially alert, so even though they "shut down" it's not 100%

I startle snakes all the time without touching them.

Also the reason they stay hid while in shed (at least in the wild they do) with limited visibility, they feel safer under a hide.
