Full Shed!

Our Anery has been in blue for like a week and hiding in the moist hide and finally we checked on him today and he looked so pretty and we found a full intact shed! Is this a rarity for KSB's? I think the moist hide is the reason definitely.

Glad to hear it was a good shed!
I'm also curious about the KSB shedding, do they need more moisture at shed time or do they use the sand as a aid in helping to shed.
Also what is your thoughts on a water dish in the enclosure, I read different things.

My opinion on a water dish is very much yes even if they may like a dryer climate, almost everything drinks water so why not offer some. As long as the dish is easily accessible and not very deep and don't have it over or under a heat source because bacteria may grow faster in it that way. This is our first shed for a KSB so I would assume the reason for the whole shed is due to the moist hide and I also assume its a good thing. I have read that they tend to have messy sheds and can have some stick to the tails and possibly have health issues from it. I really can't say whats best but what I did seemed to work and the snake looks healthy. When I saw he was in shed I put the hide in there and he found it and went in on his own and after checking on him and taking him out he would head right for it afterwards so it must have something he likes more than the other hides.

My ksb just shed a few days ago and it was a nice clean shed I put in a humid hide when I noticed she was in blue and I also keep a water dish in my enclosure its a small dish with a lid and a small hole for access and I see my ksb drinking regularly so I belive its a good idea to provide drinking water for them

Good to know, I believe water is very important to all snakes, but some people say no to the water with sand boa's, and I often wondered about the shedding. Thanks so much for the information. :)

Wow! I think I'm on to something! I noticed the rough scale has been looking kinda dull so we made another larger moist hide and put him in it walla a full shed!!

Congrats on all your sheds!!! It certainly sounds like you are doing something right. I agree that a humid hide can do an amazing job, I just suggest that you don't need to leave it in the viv all the time. You evidently have noticed when your babies are in blue so that's the best time for the hide. I always keep a water dish in with my little one which has enough water in it for a shallow swim or to drink and I change that water if it is fouled or twice a week. It doesn't increase the viv's humidity on its own, but I've noticed that my humid hide does so it only goes in when Eryx is getting ready to shed. Keep up the good work and I'd love to see some pics of your newly shed babies when you get a chance!
