OMG SO CUTE!! He looks like a frisky guy. Bet he runs uber fast.
So I am curious...when these guys get full size what are they supposed to eat? I mean they get pretty big right? So then they can pack away the bugs right?

Interesting. The one at a zoo that I worked at while in college (many years ago) we just fed f/t baby chicks. That lizard loved those things...but I have no idea how healthy such a diet was. It didn't get fed every day though. Don't remember how often...but wasn't every day.
yea every other day and not large meals !

I think that it was once a week...and I wanna say it was 3-4 baby chicks? I wish my memory was better. I think this is why I would never get one of these guys. Just a bit more than I can handle responsibly.
lol interesting im sure it was a healthy sav, they are a bit much worse then my dog sometimes lol

I just remember it being really old, really big, relaxed, and a hell of a eater. It was given to the zoo by someone who didn't think it would live so long or get so big. He reminded me of a dog, he loved attention and to get scratched. Kids loved to pet him and get their pictures taken with him.

One of the things I like about living out here in the middle of nowhere is during the summer when we take our Chomper outside, he inhales anything that moves that he can fit in his mouth.
He found a bunch of beetles down by the creek, he cleaned them up and looked for more.
He seems fond of fresh crayfish and will dig around in the rocks looking for them.
He even eats the pincers after they fall off.
I also have access to lean venison, it's free when you know hunters.
I do enjoy my roach colony, and my Leo (gecko) loves juvi roaches, so I'll always keep them around too.

Aw! So cute! Now I want one :c but it's something I'd potentially consider in... 10... 15 years? Not sure it'd be a 100% good idea, for me, though. At any rate, Chomper is gorgeous~ Absolutely adore the tongue flicking and omnoming~ Such an eager, cute eater. x>
ill post an update vid later today !

Just wondering how you exercise him? Our monitor gets his by chasing his bugs around his viv and trying to catch locusts in mid air as they jump. With hand feeding like that do you exercise him as well?
oh yea we tie a cooked egg to a strin ang let him chase i every day and in the sumer 10 minute walks of chasing buggs lool

That would make a good vid!! lol. Have done quite a bit of research into savs (even tho i am potentially never gonna get a chance to own one) and the consistent warning that comes up with them and most monitors is that they are lazy swines and need to be encouraged to exercise so that they dont just sit and eat and get fat. Always interested to hear how people ensure this doesnt happne.
